Amazing! Best place I have stayed at so far.
Just a wow feeling walking in.
I truly don’t understand the bad reviews here. But then it might not have been a busy time with fully booked hotel at this time, so staff had time to clean and fix.
It is quiet when you close the windows. A bit noisy when neighbours had a baby that cried. But other ways not a sound from the building itself.

I’d recommend book a more expensive room in top floor. It is by all means cheaper than most nice hotels in Tromsø. There is a convenient store just 2 min walk from Skaret and a big parking garage at the same distance. The local bus stops very close by and there is a taxi stop outside Skaret. So just perfect. You can also walk around the city center easily. I loved this place and it made the trip to Tromsø magic.

Extremely Terrible and Disappointing Experience
1. No Services and Poor Facilities
The concept of a no-staff hotel might sound innovative, but in reality, it means zero support and terrible facilities. Everything felt neglected.
2) Paid seaview but got the rooftop view
We paid 30% extra for an ocean view room, but the reality was disappointing: about 75% of the view was blocked by the building opposite, so it was basically a rooftop view. there is no man hotel, so we couldn't even request a room change. the only official way to contact them is by email.
3. Dirty and Dusty Environment
The room was covered in dust, and the kitchen utensils were greasy and filthy. Later, we discovered a note saying guests are expected to clean utensils before leaving—but no dishwashing liquid or soap was provided. Completely unacceptable.
4. Ridiculous Curfew and Access Issues
The hotel enforces a strict curfew:
Weekdays: 9 PM to 9 AM
Weekends: 6 PM to 10 AM
During these hours, the main entrance is locked, and you must enter through a backdoor in the basement. There’s no escalator or elevator from the basement to the rooms—you have to walk up to the ground floor lobby.
5. Room Key Failure in Freezing Weather
The backdoor requires your room card for access, but ours didn’t work. After finishing an aurora tour at 1 AM in -10°C weather, we were locked out. The only instruction in the room was: “If something doesn’t work, email us.” We emailed immediately, but it took five hours to get a reply—and the response was, “Which hotel did you book?” Absolutely shocking.
Bottom Line:
This hotel is a nightmare. No staff, no support, dirty rooms, absurd curfew, and zero accountability. If you value your safety and comfort, do not book this place.

Skaret by Vander – Dirtier Than a Footy Locker Room
We walked into our room and thought we’d stumbled into a coal mine—black dirt all over the floor. Fair enough, maybe someone had a rough day, but then came the real kicker: hair in the bed, under the quilt. Not just a stray strand either—proper evidence that the sheets hadn’t been changed since the last poor soul checked out.
It seems we’re unlucky enough to inherit someone else’s bed, you’re basically sharing their DNA. We only found out because we accidentally pulled the quilt back and nearly fainted.
Honestly, this place makes a backpacker hostel look like the Ritz. If hygiene matters to you—and let’s be real, it should—do yourself a favour and steer clear. Unless, of course, you enjoy playing “Guess Who Slept Here Before Me?”
