Mountain in the center of town

Hotel in the heart of the city. It's only a couple of houses to the main street, but walking back is right uphill. There's parking on the property. It costs NZ$25 a night.
Rooms are old style and simple materials, but clean and well maintained.
There's nothing slippers/water/brushes in the rooms, of course.
WiFi is normal.
Breakfast is good. There are standard dishes.

Central and Ok, just getting a bit tired and needs a refreshed look. Service etc was great

We have stayed at the Kingsgate a number of times. We come back generally due to the price, breakfast and convenience.
Breakfast seems to have changed from a full cooked breakfast to a continental breakfast. It was ok, but not what was being advertised.
If you are a light sleeper take earplugs. The walls appear paper thin. We could hear the people in the room next door and know another group that actually asked to be moved.
The area is central city, so late night party noises, cars and people are normal.
Parking on site now costs $25 night, which while convenient seems an excessive cost. Carparks are also tight and on a hilly slope.
It gets a pass mark, but nothing amazing.

Don’t stay here

Very dated, noisy rooms, breakfast was average we could’ve had that at home, $25 for onsite parking is just a rip off, the restaurant and bar wasn’t even open, it would have been nice to find that out before we booked. We won’t ever go back there .

Outdated and tired

Pros:
Warm room
Comfortable bed
Friendly staff.
Cons:
Dirty and outdated
Bath tub had hair on the wall and what looked like pubic hair in the tub.
Although they have room service, I would not recommend dining in. Food is overpriced and looks like something they just popped out of a package and warmed up in the oven.
Continental breakfast has a good selection.
