The room and bed is confortable but really cold, with no heater. The bedding is really confortable and keep your warm during the night though. The hotel staff is really friendly and helpful. The breakfast is simple but good. The gardens are really pretty!

Nice little place to stay

I will summarize the pros and cons of this place, because it is wonderful but has some issues that might make it a problem for some people. This is not a typical hostel that you might be used to - it is a bed and breakfast. There is no front desk -Marco lives on the property and you have to go find him in his rooms if you need something. When you arrive, keep in mind that there is no sign or anything - just a door in the wall and you have to ring for them to come and open it.
PROS
1) The host, Marco, is the most kind and gracious person ever. He loaned me sols for a taxi since I did not have a chance to exchange money, trusting me to pay him back later. He helped me with taxis and advice and anything else I needed. I can't say enough about how wonderful he is, and he is the main reason I am writing this review.
2) The grounds are very pretty - lots of plants and cute pathways. You would never guess it from the street that it would be so lush. There are a lot of animals on the grounds (rabbits, cats, birds) which I like a lot, but if you have allergies it may be a problem.
3) Free breakfast, which was handmade eggs and rolls cooked on demand. I did have to wander around a bit to get it, though - it's not just sitting out.
4) Pretty good wifi
5) Comfortable sitting areas - like someone's home with couches and tables.
CONS
1) Location is far from city center, but on the other hand it isn't too far from the airport. I think it is one of the closest cheap accommodations to the airport, but it is in a pretty deserted looking area.
2) The place is quite old. The room I had on the first floor was ok, but cold and drafty. The shower head was clogged so it was spotty. Marco was kind enough to loan me a heater, but it was propane and huge and I was scared to leave it on during the night due to carbon dioxide. I was very cold, and the wood floors were a bit loose. I think the rooms on the 2nd floor are nicer, but mine was not that great. It was clean, though, and I had a lot of warm blankets. I did have hot water, but it did not last very long. TV did not work either, but I'm sure Marco would have fixed it if I had asked.
3) They don't take credit cards which is inconvenient.
4) The reservation I made on Hostelworld said that they do free airport transfers, but I had to pay to get to the airport in the morning.
5) Animal allergies as mentioned above
Overall, I'm not sure if I would stay there again simply due to convenience to downtown and heating. But I liked Marco very much, and he is very eager to please and I think it would be a good place for a more laid back, personal trip.

3 sweet weeks in Cusco at Kukuli Lodge

I was at Kukuli Lodge for three weeks with my partner. At the end of it it felt like home and we would have stayed more if we could have.
Marco and Roland are very nice people and great hosts, they always went out of their ways to help with anytyhing that we asked. Dora, who helps with day to day tasks, made our stay also very pleasant, with her fantastic breakfasts that helped us start our days as if at our parent's homes.
The rooms are big and with private toilets (big, ample, and with hot water which was much appreciated!). They also let us use their kitchen to cook our meals, mostly for dinners. There is a big room with an amazing wooden table which I used many times for working with my laptop. Wifi worked jut fine for the most part, and in general the environment at the house was very quiet and relaxing. Perfect for working, reading or having a littler coffee checking your whatsapps.
They also have a very nice garden which they keep in beautiful shape with all kind of local flora. It helps a lot for an overall sentation of intimacy that you have in the room. It felt like an apartment where you coincidentally happen to find other people from time to time.
The city center is at a walking distance of 25-30 minutes. Ohterwise when we didn't feel like walking there's the ever running stream of taxis that charge only 5 Soles to get you at any point of the city. Buses also come all the time for just 1 Sol, but they tend to take longer to get you at the Plaza de Armas, usually the same time as you would take walking.
We've had an excellent stay here and would reccomend that to anyone.

The Kukuli is super welcoming and feels really homie. It is not located on the turist area but it is a short 30 min walk to it. You can experience the real Peruvian culture with local sandwich shops and bakeries. You do not have to deal with street vendors everytime you step out
