To have a real experience and immerse yourself in the medicine and culture of this beautiful land, Maestro Amador and Rosa will open this gate for you. With loving, professional service to their guest, we experienced Puerto Maldonado in a very intimate way. We experienced a hospitality that is rare to ordinary tourist. Chimicuas means a fruit from the Chimicuas Tree. We tasted that fruit at it's finest!

Good and bad.....

Very modest accommodations. Rosa is a nice lady who tries very hard. She is personable and does care. Her english is passable. Our room(s) were basic although the a/c was appreciated. The a/c was not strong though. We had some real issues when we booked one night. Our bathroom kept flooding from the toilet tank so we were moved to another room. That room was torrid hot. The water in the bathroom was not working and when they turned on the water the volume of water coming from the shower head was at the most a sprinkle. Unfortunately the husband blew that off as the way it was. Rosa did our laundry and that was much appreciated and the cost was reasonable. The breakfast was good and more than enough food. Wifi worked. I think they need to get some of their processes up to speed for foreign tourists.

Ayahuasca and stay

We met the Shaman at the chimicuas house. The house is clean, well maintained and the food is excellent. We ate all our meals there and we had more than enough to eat. The price very very reasonable and we had an amazing experience. They picked us up at the bus station and they were just wonderful house. it's called a house but it is a hotel. I would highly recommend this place and will gladly return this fall.

Probably the best place you'll find in PM

- AC is everything in this crazy hot/humid weather. Our room had an AC and a large fan, which cooled the room down to a very comfortable temperature. This also meant little to no mosquitos in our room!
- A very large, clean room. Keep in mind, this is Puerto Maldonado so no matter what, there will be some bugs around. This hotel is probably as clean as it gets in PM.
- Fast free wifi
- Good breakfast with made to order eggs
- The owner helped us arrange a tour to Lago Sandoval. We had a great time!
- Free shuttle to the town square every day, whenever we wanted to go--no set schedule.
- The best thing was we were allowed to stay in our room until our bus departure on check-out day (7pm, a very late check-out haha)
The only downside was that the faucet/toilet didn't work sometimes.

A relaxing retreat in Puerto Maldonado

Ad you can imagine, after the bus ride from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado, we were rather tired! Thankfully, we'd arranged for a staff member from Chimicuas House to pick us up from the bus terminal - it's only a 5/10minute walk, but with all our bags we're glad they arranged a taxi! The roads in the area are not paved, so there's a real sense of being in a rural area. As soon as we arrived, Rosa welcomed us with 'Good Morning!' and offered us breakfast too. This was a real bonus, because not only did we check-in 5 hours early, we also got a free breakfast! We chose the superior double room, which had a massive bed in it and I nice private shower. We were happy to be provided clean towels and soap. The hotel feels more like a big family home, and as guests, we felt like am extension of this family. Although only there for a few nights, Rosa and Armando helped us to organise the collectivos to the Brazilian border, which was a great help because our Spanish would not have made the cut! Breakfast wad delicious every morning and we were even able to have our laundry taken care of. To very to the downtown area, it is about a 50 minute walk, but a motortaxi takes only about 10 minutes (S./5-6). It was an unforgettable experience, and we loved our stay. Thank you everyone at Chimicuas House!
