Stunning Views & Perfect for Rali da Madeira
We stayed at Valley View Hotel, Encumeada, for one night during the Rali da Madeira (Rosário stage) and it was ideal. The hotel has breathtaking mountain views, spacious rooms with comfy beds, and a great rally atmosphere – we could watch the cars right from the hotel!
The bar was open all day, the buffet lunch was excellent, and the small à la carte dinner menu was much better than the buffet. Friendly staff and a relaxed 12:00 checkout made our stay even better.
A perfect base for rally fans or anyone wanting a peaceful mountain escape.

Solid - you try hard
We expected the worst and were cautiously surprised positively. Nevertheless, what is stated in the other reviews is quite true: Water on the walls, lots of mold in the bathroom, hard mattresses, very small bed, windows leaking, extremely noisy. Breakfast and dinner we found perfectly fine, Was quite similar to other stops of our trip.
Hair dryer, kettle, fridge available.
Our room had a side view of the valley, which was very nice. The floor below us (first floor) certainly only sees trees.
I think if the expectations are right, the hotel is fine.
Because of the hiking trails that start here, I wouldn’t recommend an overnight stay – you can also go to another point without any problems.

We arrived here very tired from hiking. They offer full board options and it looks like mostly bigger groups come to stay here. Excellent wine selection. We like the barmen, had lots of funny stories to share.

Horrible Hotel
Horrible hotel. Horrible experience. Truly a horrible horrible hotel. Hair all over the floor on check-in. Worms (plural) in the room. Musty smell in dark, outdated, and cramped rooms. The food was mediocre at best. I get they’re the only game in town for those walking the trails, but avoid if possible. I’ve stayed in guest houses in third world countries that tried harder to be hospitable and cleaner with what they have. There’s no excuse for this hotel to be this bad given their resources. Just an absolutely horrible hotel.
