Night away

I’m on crutches and the staff couldn’t be more amenable at the Penhelig! Great location and view, comfortable and spacious rooms and a cracking cooked breakfast- lovely and fresh. We’ll be returning (hopefully without crutches next time ). Thanks!
Top tip: book a ground floor room if you can as these have parking- we didn’t know this but will ensure next time.

Avoid

Breakfast poor room very small two staircases hit head several times broken blinds and wall damage near TV never give this place 4star more like 2 more like a hostel and parking expensive at £15.40 a day shows and told parking opposite but you are forced to use council carparks as car park shown on there photos is now a beer garden and food small portions for high costs no valeting of rooms through our stay may be the staff don't want to climb them stairs

Thank you for bringing the maintenance issues to our attention. If staying for more than 1 night on a short visit, room servicing is by request either at reception or by placing the card on your door handle this is stated on a card in your room and at reception. The Penhelig Arms dates from 1834 and was converted from a row of fisherman's cottages and therefore is not a modern building layout which gives us our character and unfortunately means that there is no parking available on site due to our location. Booking sites list the type of rooms available from suites to doubles to small doubles to singles. . We are truly sorry that you did not enjoy your visit but hope that you will consider us again in the future. Many thanks, Team Penhelig.

Clean room and very helpful staff but bar was closed (despite notice saying open till 11pm) on our return. We didn't breakfast there but went to Coast in the village. Recommended. No Car park that we were made aware of either.

Our first Impression of our arrival in Aberdovey wasn't good. It is worth stating that only the suites at the hotel have reserved parking, other rooms have to use the nearby council car park, which is convenient, but costs an eye watering £15,40 a day. Not the hotel's fault of course, but I think guests should be made aware. The car park does not accept cards either, only cash and the App.
We were allocated a room on the top floor, the stairs are rather small, and difficult to manouver with luggage, and badly scuffed in places. Our room was very spacious, with a comfortable bed with quality bedding. The bathroom too was spacious with good quality towels. There was a kettle plus tea & coffee, together with a small sofa and coffee table.
It was very hot during our stay there, and there is no air conditioning of course, nor fans provided, so only the small windows to provide any airflow. However, the kitchen extractor fan(s) were located outside the bedroom window, and were going until almost midnight every day, from around 7am. This together with the heat meant poor quality sleeping every night.
The cooked breakfasts were very good, but not the "Continental" option, only apples, oranges, cereals and a few croisants were available most days plus toast, and yoghurts if they had any. No rolls, meats, vegetables or cheeses. Water for hot drinks is from an Urn, no coffee machine. The "Continental" items ran out frequently every day.
Note: the Kitchen Hygene Rating is only 3.
