Perfect stay

Wonderful experience. My whole stay was faultless. Every member of staff is friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble.
The food was incredible, every meal from breakfast through to dinner (including the cakes) was delicious!
They somehow manage to strike the perfect balance between a home away from home and utter decadence.

Excellent service . Pleasant , happy ,helpful staff , nothing is too much trouble . Box supplied to bring home the cakes i didn't manage to eat .

Over priced

We called in for a drink on the terrace for a drink on our walk and my husband went to the bar. He asked for the cheapest glass of wine and he had a pint of Lucas.
The bill came to £22.39 and even included a £2 service charge. Even though he fetched it himself. Will not be going back we will stick to the Devonshire down the road.

Improvement required, could do better!

We have stayed at The Cavendish many times, but our recent stay was disappointing.
Although in a beautiful location with easy access both on foot or by car to Chatsworth, the hotel standards need improvement and have certainly deteriorated since our Christmas visit.
We have never stayed in a hotel where some Receptionists do not say anything when you enter or leave the building. 'Good morning/evening' would have been more favourable than just sitting there, even a smile would have sufficed. They are the first point of contact with the hotel and should make more effort to engage with residents at all times.
Our room had a great view, but the bathroom was cramped and the only place to do hair and makeup was a long mirror hidden in a cupboard. Surely a room of this price could manage a Cheval mirror near a socket!
And then there is the food. Breakfast is good, friendly professional staff and food served promptly, hot and until noon. Dinner is another story. Neither restaurant has a nutritionally balance choice for vegetarian/vegans, please add protein, beans, peas, nuts etc in amounts equivalent to meat or fish. The Gallery restaurant is expensive, small portions served warm after a very very very long wait. We nearly gave up and went elsewhere. The Sommelier has a loud voice, a very loud voice. He takes great delight in telling guests incredible details about the wine almost as if he's learnt them by rote. At the end of his delivery there is a pause, as if he expects the room he has silenced should clap! Any atmosphere in the dining room is destroyed while guests wait for his next 'performance'
The Garden Room is beautiful but has a limited menu. Staff frequently forgot to bring things we had asked for, and the food was unexciting when it did eventually arrive.
The food at The Pilsley Inn is much better, a different experience, less expensive, generous portions, and a quieter atmosphere. It's a car ride away but well worth the effort.
And where is the Hotel Manager or any Senior staff at The Cavendish? They certainly weren't evident during our stay. The comments we passed on we were told 'would be fed back'. Sometimes it's better to speak to Management directly.
Breaks on the Chatsworth estate have always been something to look forward to, but there are other places to stay in the area and for our next visit we'll try one of those.

Most enjoyable

We very much enjoyed our recent stay. Our accessible room and bathroom were spacious and comfortable. The only niggle was the room overlooked the car park which meant we had cars, deliveries and people walking past the windows frequently. We appreciated the Bakewell cakes and homemade cookies.
The staff were professional, friendly and helpful. We’d particularly like to mention the porter who went the extra mile to help on several occasions.
The dinners and breakfasts were delicious and beautifully presented.
We highly recommend this hotel.
