Hotel with a soul

I stayed for two nights at this hotel, although old, its very clean and it has a feeling of warmth.
The food was excellent, I would recommend the Steak Pie, breakfast was cooked to order, quality ingredients, presented well and on a hot plate, many so called national four star hotels cannot achieve this standard.
OK, there are some stairs to climb to get to the bedroom, even as a senior citizen this was not an issue.
During my trip I was able to speak to locals who speak fondly about the hotel..

Fantastic food at a reasonable cost - do not miss!

We weren't staying in The Argyll Arms but went there for dinner both nights we were staying in Campbeltown. The food is amazing! Lots of basic home cooked food which is cooked to perfection. I had the gammon steak which cut like butter and melted in your mouth. My husband had the stroganoff one night and the roast beef the next - recommend everything. All at reasonable prices too - do not miss for great food.

Great Short Break

A traditional hotel being refurbished. Friendly atmosphere, clean rooms, comfy beds, spotless linens. Excellent table service with friendly and efficient service. A busy hotel which is probably used a lot by locals. Excellent breakfast choices. Dinner an absolute joy and reasonably priced.
Friendly, helpful and efficient staff throughout. Had a lovely two days in Campbeltown.

Small, comfortable and friendly hotel

Located in centre of Campbeltown, this is a small hotel with recently renovated rooms. Breakfast was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed for one night and it was comfortable and ideal for us. Hotel has private car park round the back.

No Worth the Money

We arrived early evening and received a luke-warm welcome. 3 members of staff stood behind us as we checked in. They stood and had a chat while we negotiated the doors to the rooms, carrying a case and 2 large bags. No offer of assistance. No one even took a single step forward to hold a door open. Nice. The hotel is old so I didn't expect it to be great but I definitely did not expect the STENCH from the bathroom (which filled the entire room) Apart from that, the room was ok. Adequate at best.
Whenever I eat in a restaurant or a hotel, I expect the chef to do a better job than I could. My husband had scampi which he said was nice. I had steak pie with roast potatoes. The steak pie was 'blah' and the roast potatoes were possibly cooked on a radiator. I could do better.
Bizarely, breakfast was from 7:30am -9am on a Saturday. No chance of a leisurely morning after a week at work. It seems the staff are suiting themselves here instead of thinking abut what a guest might enjoy/prefer. The breakfast situation was a bit odd with the older of the 2 ladies taling to people like she was the school dinner lady! Maybe that was just her way but, in my opinion, it requires attention. There is an acceptbale way of speaking to paying guests and hers wasn't it.
Breakfast itself was nice although I wasn't feeling hungry and didn't eat much.
Overall, it wasn't worth the money we paid and I would choose somewhere else if I returned.
