Lovely stay for a lovely wedding.

What worked well
Overall an excellent stay delivered by the staff we encountered such as Wendy on front of house. Location worked well as attending a friend’s wedding and to be able to visit Chester. Atmosphere of Hotel was good - evidently a busy hotel with multiple functions in the area and the inclement weather curtailed outdoor seating usage at times. Our Room was overall comfortable although the sofa bed became uncomfortable after more than 2 nights use.
Parking space was good (although there always entitled drivers who don’t park in marked bays) - lack of electric charging points and having to go to The Piper pub nearby definitely not ideal.
Uber access worked well to get to and from Chester however.
Even better if
Service in the bar and restaurant was good overall - breakfast service worked generally but staff attention to detail was a little varied for example in making sure condiments were readily available, hot foods replenishment was also a little delayed at times (like baked beans), more regular coffee machine checks needed also.
That said the staff were good overall. Thanks to Josh for looking after us at dinner on our last night with friends.
I would as a final suggestion look to find a way to manage billing when for example multiple bookings for the same room type have been made - surely there is a simpler solution than asking guests to come back to a busy reception desk to revalidate their keys and pay for the following night. Plans change so surely there is a hotel has a more efficient way of supporting that?.

Beautiful hotel spa and grounds

Hotel and grounds were amazing we stayed here for a family wedding arriving on on 29th August till 31st the young girl who checked us in was amazing we were on first floor but because I struggle to walk Hattie changed us to ground floor room no 2 by reception and can I say it was so peaceful you heard a bit of noise but not at night time while you were asleep we had an amazing family wedding and and amazing stay at double tree by Hilton would definitely recommend to anyone who would be visiting Chester it is a lovely place only thing was I left my I pencil behind in the room phoned hotel but wasn’t handed in that was only downside

Small details matter.

Management: please ask your staff not to hoover/vacuum in the middle of the day.
We were there on Tuesday 1st September @11am and this is what happened.

Awful

We were treated awfully by a member of staff during our visit. My boyfriend has ADHD and autism, and a member of staff told him that he was “too drunk” and over the limit, when in reality that is how he can be even without having a drink. It was upsetting to see him treated this way, especially when his neurodiversity should have been approached with a little more understanding and consideration. For the amount of money we spent, the experience was completely unacceptable. I certainly won’t be returning, even if it was free.

Our team has a legal responsibility under the Licensing Act 2003 to ensure that alcohol is not knowingly sold to a person who appears to be intoxicated. Section 141 of the Act makes it an offence to knowingly sell alcohol to a person who is drunk. We fully recognise that behaviours associated with neurodivergent conditions should not be misinterpreted as signs of intoxication, nor should they result in unfair treatment. Following a review of the circumstances by two managers, both were satisfied that the decision made on the evening was based on the situation presented at the time and was an appropriate course of action. We are disappointed to learn that this incident detracted from your overall experience. Nevertheless, having reviewed the matter thoroughly, we are confident that our team acted appropriately and in accordance with both their legal responsibilities and their duty of care towards our guests and team members.

The room was sufficient for our stay, the let down for us was no drawers to put our underwear in, the radiator in the bathroom was controlled by maintenance staff which wasn't ideal as we had to ask reception each time we wanted it on and also ask when we wanted it turning it off.
We had booked a couple of treatments as we were celebrating our anniversary to be told that we had to pay an extra £20 per person for a two hour use of the spa which was not stipulated in the description, we only booked this hotel due to there being a photo of a beautiful pool in the main picture, we had paid a substantial amount to stay at the hotel and treatments, so didn't expect to have to pay more just to use the pool for half an hour before our treatments. After a couple of discussions the spa staff agreed to let have a complimentary hour use of the pool, which was exceptional, the treatments were splendid too.
The afternoon tea was a bit of a let down, the actual sandwiches were fair, the cakes were nice, but the scones left a lot to be desired they had been frozen and defrosted so were rock hard once they were brought to our table, very disappointed. The breakfast was a different thing altogether, there was so much to choose from, it was all well laid out, freshly cooked, good value for money.
