Amazing Service

Stayed for one night for a weekend away. Very clean and comfortable accommodation with everything you need. We had dinner on the Saturday evening and breakfast the following morning. The food is wonderful, huge portions and very tasty, excellent in fact. Ruth (the owner) is an excellent hostess, very good service and friendly. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Great food and spectacular garden

Our car club had another great evening at The Cricketers. What made it even better was being seated outside in the hidden gem that is the pub garden. Wow! Spectacular isn't enough! We sat and watched four green woodpeckers in the trees and had excellent food. The homemade steak pie was superb! Thanks to all at The Cricketers... we will be back for sure!

Just passing through !

Passing through, and looking for a nice country pub for a refreshing drink, we gazed in awe at the lovely exterior of the Cricketer's. Entering the bar area, only one other customer was sat at the bar, who greeted us enthusiastically, introducing himself as Peter. Charlotte was the barmaid, and asked us what we would like. Never had it before and recommended by Peter, I had a dimpled handled pint of "Comfortably Numb", the good lady opting for a pint of "Pravha". both at a good price, added bonus, ale was a great temperature, no need to check, but a guess at 13-14 degrees. We were advised to take them outside and enjoy the beautiful garden. We are so glad we did, my wife saying this is the best pub garden she has ever been in. The vision of so many different shrubs, bushes and trees is AMAZING. You can venture further down and explore, or just sit at a bench , like I did. When the wife returned from her David Livingstone jaunt, she was smiling from ear to ear and enthusing greatly, saying she couldn't wait to come back, of which I am sure we will. Great visit, great ale, very clean toilets, great welcome, what more do you need? Try it out, you won't be disappointed.

Excellent lunch

We have visited the pub a number of times for drinks after dog walking at Duncton Mill but this was the first time for food. The pub has a lovely garden and it was warm enough to sit outside.
I had the steak and ale pie with new potatoes, veg and gravy. There was a very generous slice of pie with plenty of meat and a great taste. The veg included cauliflower cheese (a wonderful touch), buttered carrots and tenderstem (I think) broccoli. The veg was al dente, something I find fairly rare in pub meals and so a pleasant surprise. The new potatoes were cooked to perfection and the gravy was spot on. Cost I think was £15.95. A bargain in my view.
My wife is vegetarian and chose the battered halloumi and chips with a sweet chilli sauce. The batter was crisp and golden and the halloumi softer and creamier than is usual. There were three generous slices, too much for my wife so I helped out. The chips were thick cut and cooked “just right” (yes I had a few of those as well, I hadn’t had any breakfast and I didn’t need any dinner!!). I think the halloumi was also £15.95.
Service was good and the staff polite and welcoming. Based on our experience I would recommend this pub.

Our favourite pub

Wonderful staff,food is superb quality and excellent value for money,the place is always busy which just shows the team are doing a fabulous job,were often drive 70 miles round trip to eat here as we know its propa food
