Fantastic stay under challenging circumstances
I cannot thank nor recommend The Squireel Inn enough for the hospitable; kind, welcoming and friendly service these past few days.
Having travelled down the early hours of the morning to rush my dog from Lincoln to Surrey for major spinal surgery; being upset and exhausted; the team have shown compassion and empathy towards me; providing a rolling service dependant on the time I’ve required whilst here.
The room was immaculate; fresh bedding, spotless bathroom with shower over bath en-suite facilities.
The bed was comfortable and the food in the bar delicious. For a more budget friendly option in the area I have zero complaints at all. Dog friendly; the grounds are stunning and clean.
Would I stay here again?; it would be my only choice! The town of Godalming on the other hand is a different matter!

Ridiculously Expensive drinks. Appalling room.
Ridiculously Expensive drinks. Appalling Filthy room. The room was the size of a broom cupboard, the shower just a cubicle in the corner. Strong damp and mildew smell. Insufficient heating. No WiFi or phone reception. Broken matress springs poking through up against the wall one side. Filthy
£24 for a single G&T and a Guiness zero (can) 4 items from the menu not available including Pizzas.
Could not sleep and felt ripped off.
Questionable electrical safety ( see pictures ) . £72 a room and £65 for 2 drinks and 2 starters.

Food ok but overpriced
Visited recently, was fairly happy with quality of food, our server was pleasant. I bought a pint of Timothy Taylor, at £5.80, which is average, and a pint of lime/soda which was £4.90. I wasn't given a receipt but the next time I ordered the same pint I mentioned the price of the soda/lime and was told it was £3.90 which is ridiculously expensive. Be aware that a service charge of 12.50% will be added to your bill for both food and drink.

Great location, great service, incredibly expensive drinks.£22.50 for a glass of wine and Guinness
It is such a shame that this pub is so expensive. It is my local, 200 yds away so easy to get too and handy. The staff are friendly and the facilities have been upgraded so it is a nice environment.
The problem is the prices. My wife and I popped down for a quick drink. One pint of Guinness and a 175ml glass of Sauvignon later and I am faced with a £22:50 bill. I sighed and paid ( only later did I realise that they had charged a 12.5% service charge despite me going to the bar)
The mark up on the wine list appears to be around 3.5 times for the cheaper bottles, just wrong.
They are charging £110 for Xmas dinner, offering a glass of Prosecco (not Champagne) as an aperitif. This compares to the Star in Witley £95 with Tattinger & The Merry Harriers in Hambledon £85.
They do food specials which are good value, it only if you want eat on a Tuesday.
I really, really want to make this pub my local but end up walking past to the Stag on the River or the Cyderhouse as they are better value.

The shower? A comedy act. Hot for about 30 seconds, then colder than a winter tee-off.
On the plus side, the Guinness was actually spot on — smooth, cold, and poured perfectly. Sadly, the ribs weren’t. Dry as cardboard and chewier than an old golf tee.
Verdict: Great pint, terrible everything else. Come for the Guinness, leave before you see the rooms.
