Everything you want from an escape from London

What an incredible stay. I went with my mum as we’re from NZ and I’ve lived in London for 15 years so only get to see her occasionally and we wanted a cute little getaway. I can’t even describe how much this exceeded my expectations, such a stunning place, we had afternoon tea and Jane was an absolute delight, so knowledgeable and attentive. The whole place was stunning so we would have been perfectly happy in our original room, but we got upgraded and it was unbelievably comfortable. The trim trail is lovely. I saw 2 muntjac, a deer, and a black fox - they’re crazy rare, make up less than 0.1% of the uk fox population. All the staff are so lovely. I feel bad I didn’t get everyone’s names but the girl with the eyebrow piercing made a really lovely impression too. I feel like I’m raving like a loon, but it’s honestly deserved. Also, have the fresh peaches at breakfast if you come early August. They’re perfection. I could go on, all the little details like iced tea by the front door etc etc. just a gorgeous gorgeous place. Shall definitely be back

A wonderful hotel with excellent staff

A fabulous sound bath retreat where we were treated with such care by Camilla. Very good value for all that was included in the stay.

Afternoon Tea

Stunning surroundings atmosphere was nice and calming. The room /lounge was very elegant and full of character. Value reasonable. Luke B was very attentive and great with the knowledge and history of the building. Very attentive and friendly.

Gorgeous hotel. Shame about the food.

I've been to Down Hall for lunch a dozen times now, and stayed overnight only once. The hotel itself and the grounds are fantastic. Beautiful, comfortable rooms. Lovely common areas. The staff is helpful. The grounds are stunning and provide restful walks. It lacks a pool which is a shame. I've used the spa facilities but not had a treatment, however, the hydrotherapy spa is very awkward to use. It's quite a small space to sit in because of the fountain in the middle. No leg stretching here, just sitting upright.
For me, what is very disappointing is the food. The menu has barely changed in all the times I've come. It's quite hit and miss how good what you order is. They could do much better with the food by changing menus seasonally (if they do, it's barely noticeable). The portions are smallish for the price, particularly the salads. I've had a prawn Caesar with 3 prawns. A chicken Caesar with 3 small bits of chicken. A watermelon salad the size of a side dish. Fish & Chips good one time, overcooked the next time. I had a decent kebab dish. Decent burger. They used to do a fabulous pavlova but the last time was awful. I had dinner there of fillet mignon that was tiny and overcooked and served with barely any side and so overpriced. The price wouldn't be an issue if the quality and quantity was better. They're trading on their location for dining as the view is lovely when eating outside and the interiors are stylish. The food was by no means awful but very ordinary. I keep going back because it's a peaceful vibe all round but they really need to get the food manager on the kitchen's case. Don't be ordinary in an extraordinary setting.

A fantastic staycation for family

We had a fantastic one-night stay at the hotel and were delighted to receive a complimentary upgrade to a beautiful family room, which even included a Nintendo Switch — a huge hit with the kids!
The hotel and estate grounds are absolutely beautiful, with so much to see and do. We enjoyed the giant chess board, padel, badminton and tennis courts, while the kids especially loved the playground, farm and trim trail. There was genuinely so much to keep everyone entertained that it felt like a proper staycation rather than just an overnight stay.
A special thank you to Jodie and Ellie, who were both incredibly helpful, kind and welcoming. They went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and made our stay even more enjoyable.
We had such a wonderful time and would happily return. Highly recommended for a family getaway!
