My son and I visited yesterday on the off chance, as we hadn’t made a prior booking. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us, seating the two of us early in the restaurant before the evening service started, which meant we could relax and take our time choosing our meals.
When the meals arrived, I couldn’t get over the portion sizes — they were huge! But more importantly, the food was absolutely stunning. Everything was beautifully prepared and full of flavour.
A huge thank you to the staff for making us feel so welcome. We had a fantastic experience and would definitely recommend a visit. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Not a great experience

Staff excellent, attentive and friendly but pur experience was spoilt by the noise from the rooms next door to us and a VERY loud delivery at 8am right outside our window!!!

This was my first visit to this hotel, I was welcomed well and professional, the rooms were spacious and clean, and the location was absolutely stunning.
I would book here again when next in the area.

Lovely hotel with friendly staff in a great location

The location of the hotel is excellent, every member of staff we encountered from the lady cleaning to the guy on in the morning taking our breakfast order were really lovely and friendly. The room was basic but clean and the beds were really comfortable. It was extremely hot in the room and we only discovered there was a fan in the wardrobe when we were leaving. The shower was hot and powerful so no complaints, I would definitely stay here again and I would recommend to family and friends and the breakfast was really good as well.

Shocking customer care from Marstons........

Arrived at the Grove hotel on 3rd August with a print copy of my 3-night booking confirmation, only to be told that there was no reservation showing on their system in my name. Subsequently Marstons Central Reservations established and admitted that this was due to a "systems error" on their part. I was told that they would pay for alternative accommodation by way of compensation, on forwarding confirmation of booking to them. Due to the holiday season, everywhere in the area was pretty well fully booked, but I did manage to get one night only cancellation at the Premier Inn, at a premium price - much higher than I would normally have been prepared to pay. This was not very convenient either, as I am elderly, was not travelling by car and the hotel was a long walk from the town, along a main A road, and it was raining. However I had no choice other than to accept this, cut my trip short by two days, change my travel plans and return home the next day, all in the knowledge that I would be compensated for the considerable distress and inconvenience caused. On arriving home I telephoned the number I had been given and was told to forward booking confirmation to Central Reservations, which I did. Two weeks later, after the initial 'phone call, three e-mails to Marstons, one e-mail to the Grove Hotel, and filling in a customer feedback form, I have received nothing other than three automated e-mail responses acknowledging receipt.
The hotel itself looked nice, and the member of staff I spoke to was as helpful as she could have been in the circumstances, but I am unable to give a rating as I didn't get to stay there.
However I am DISGUSTED with Marstons Inns and will be avoiding them in the future.

We completely understand your frustration at having to find alternative accommodation at short notice, change your travel arrangements and cut your visit short. We are also very sorry to hear that, despite contacting Central Reservations and providing the requested documentation, you have not yet received the response or compensation you were expecting. We appreciate how frustrating this must be.
Although the booking error was outside the hotel’s control, we are disappointed that the subsequent communication and resolution have not met the standard you should expect from us. We will ensure your feedback is passed to the relevant team so that your case can be followed up.
We are pleased that the team member you dealt with at the hotel was as helpful as possible in difficult circumstances, and we’re sorry you didn’t get the opportunity to experience the Grove Hotel as planned.
