Lovely hotel in great location.

Located just outside town (walkable distance) this hotel is set delightfully back from the main road and is surrounded by mature trees in a large garden.
The rooms are all rather grand, but there is no pomposity about the place. Our room was large and comfortable with the usual facilities.
No evening meals, but breakfasts were a highlight with kippers available plus the usual offerings.
A pleasant 3 night stay!

Disappointed glorified garden shed dirty linen leaves a lot to be desired hospitality tray bare minimum no restaurant no privacy curtain or blind in bathroom only one chair and no wifi

If you rely on Wi-fi I'd contact the hotel prior to booking as we went without

A charming hotel decent size room and comfortable bed ,good shower no view as we were at the back of the building we couldn't get Wi-fi connection.Lovely breakfast and set in a quiet area in its own grounds,I'd say 10mins brisk walk into town.A very enjoyable stay will consider returning.

Enjoyable as usual!

Always stay at the Balcary on our trips up to the Highlands and always enjoy it….clean quiet hotel with beautiful gardens in a quiet area of Hawick, great park for a walk across the road and a large enclosed paddock for the dog to run around in set in the grounds of the hotel..we stayed in lodge 1 for two nights a week apart, very clean and spacious….had bar food and drinks which we enjoyed and morning breakfasts were perfect for us….hosts were very friendly and accommodating,could not wish for more!

Bad management

The hotel is a lovely and interesting old mansion set in private park like grounds just outside Hawick. Our room was spacious and well equipped, apart from a mattress with sloping edges, so it should have been a better stay. Unfortunately the owner did not prove welcoming at all. He offered no information whatsoever, did not greet us or even say hello. We thus had to descend downstairs to obtain the WiFi address, and again to obtain another bath towel. Ditto for teabags! The excuse for just one towel was that “ that would be bloody Booking.com’s fault.” It wasn’t! At breakfast we were presented with an account which wasn’t ours, as was the couple at the next table.
