Great pub and hotel dog friendly

Fantastic pub, dog friendly. Food is amazing! Dottie served us for breakfast and was wonderful and very funny.

Room cleanliness wasn’t great. Cobwebs everywhere and dirty windows and sills. Bathroom could do with an update.

Great place to stay

This is a really old and quaint pub with bedrooms right on the old high street which is very pretty. We have stayed here several times and although the accommodation is relatively basic, it is clean, tidy and absolutely ideal as a base. The staff are extremely helpful, accommodating and friendly. Food is good and the breakfast was lovely. Thanks to Matt and all your staff, we will be back.

Avoid if you can

So many concerns. Not a clean place at all. Smells from garbage outside. Bathroom grimy and old. Shower didn’t drain well. Our ‘standard’ double room could not have been smaller- barely room around the uncomfortable bed. Cooked breakfast was okay but by the look of the greasy exhaust emanating from the kitchen I was most concerned about hygiene. Everything needs a darn good scrub. The first photo is of the stinky access path to our room- all the bins stank so badly. The second photo is the exhaust coming from the kitchen- made me feel sick and I just don’t enjoy any food that came out of it. Staff are mostly very young. When we expressed concern about the above issues they just seemed befuddled. The housekeeper did give our bathroom a clean but really the problems are more complex than one housekeeper can solve.

Lovely Staff but Room was Dirty

Wanted to try something different when working in the Hemel area so tried here rather than a chain. Charming old pub with impeccable service and a cracking breakfast but the room, although very spacious was grotty.
I was in number 6 along with a plethora of cobwebs, hairs and bog roll in the loo, with more hairs in the shower cubicle and other muck in the bathroom; plus mugs in the room were dirty. It really put me off and the carpet gave off a terrible musty smell.
Sure a place like this needs a lot of TLC and normally I can turn a blind eye to that but not to cleanliness. Sadly it is back to the chain hotels for me when next time n the area.
