Birthday celebration and accommodation

We were having a family birthday celebration and booked the bedrooms for family members. The rooms were very comfortable with a good variety of accommodation.

Not as expected.

The bedrooms were rather minimalist in style, a bed, (comfortable), a chair, a mirror,2 coat racks, some hangers but no drawers or wardrobe;the room could have looked like a jumble sale after a few nights; O.K. for one night maybe 2 at the most. The view was beautiful, across a hay meadow with sheep and swallows preparing to migrate. The menu didn't live up to the website. It was the same every night, not extensive and no special,local dishes. Breakfasts were good but unchanging with no fish or anything slightly unusual. The food was cooked well but with little flair. Coffee was OK , the tea I didn't try. I felt everything was done to a strict budget. Ciders were good.
The best part was the proximity to Kilpeck church, which, for the attention to detail with the corbels couldn't be surpassed. An absolute delight and well with a detour !

Comfortable room

Room (Monnow) very large comfortable bed and bathroom. There were indeed great views.. but first across the carpark. Extremely interesting church. Though nothing much else there..
Great food - for instance way better than Walnut Tree Michelin star restaurant... particularly liked the very large mussels and the roasted fig and ginger/mascarpone and pistachios.
It was busy so maybe should excuse the comment when querying after a full 30minutes+ why lager had not arrived.. the “be patient” response drew breath from fellow diners…

Rubbish ignorant service

Bad experience just popped in for a drink at 2pm on a Sunday aware the place may be busy so thought would have a drink. Upon getting to the bar I was asked by the young barmaid what I would like which I replied a pint of Becks (not full order). I was then asked if I was eating which I said no. The barmaid then went away and proceeded to make up drinks for what I can only guess being pre ordered table orders. This continued for a while and I was ignored and left waiting whilst assuming my order would be started but this did not happen and was ignored by the lady who then disappeared. The young barman who was serving others then finished and asked what I was after which I told him and had my order completed after a wait. Disappointing being asked once then being ignored then being asked again what my order was. We have been to the Temple Bar Inn which had more attentive staff who served you as soon as you placed your order. Shame such a nice looking pub but let down badly by bad service and ignorance. Gets a zero from me and I won't be back

Excellent countryside hotel

Our second visit, just as good as the 1st.
Excellent food, excellent friendly staff.
The only area requires improvement is having to have breakfast by 9.30; ridiculous.
I now need to write more because it’s a minimum 200 word review again; ridiculous
