An enjoyable and relaxed stay. Old property with some interesting rustic features, but the absence of any drawer storage in the room was a problem. Good breakfast. Evenig meal menu was limited, not offering a great choice of normal English fare for an older couple.

The room I was allocated was a single bed in a what I can only describe as a converted shed at the rear of the property. Damp and very cramped .. with the toilet 2 feet from your headboard .. awful smell of sewer as well .. £90!? Not worth that at all .. will not return.

Excellent Food.

This is our second visit for an evening meal, excellent is all we can say, everything is cooked on the premises, not bought in as in many pubs these days. And this is where the quality of the food stands out. The menu was very different from our first visit, not your normal burger and chips, etc. though there were some traditional classics. This visit we had the beef lasagne and Salmon with a pistachio and herb crust served on bed of black rice also with sautéed green beans. Superb, the portion sizes are heathy so leaving space for pudding was difficult but we managed. The ginger pudding is to die for and Brigadarro, a Brazilian crustless chocolate tart served ice cream was also superb.

Countryside delight

A charming inn in glorious Northumberland countryside. No traumas finding it (using satnav) and easy parking right outside. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms are compact but perfect for what is needed and they are of course attached to a cozy bar and restaurant with a decent selection of ales and very friendly locals.
Breakfast is excellent and the evening food varied and very good. Whenever we needed advice about where to go locally for something or the best way of seeing attraction X or Y they were more than happy to help. Plenty of other villages and towns nearby as well as the Kielder dark sky reserve (and the observatory) and Kielder water for outdoor activities and walks. Would definitely recommend staying here.
