Excellent hostel experience

Very clean and organized. Well resourced facility that allows you to cook if you want, get updates on current news and all. I cant fault anything besides many steps to the third floor.

Not a place where you can sleep

My partner and I stayed for four nights, and we couldn't sleep a wink on any of them because the staff didn't bother telling other guests about the "quiet time" policy (11 PM to 7 AM). People would check in at all hours, enter the room, turn on the lights, bang on lockers, shower, and watch TikToks at full volume. Keep in mind it was a six-person room; whenever we tried to tell people not to make noise or turn on the lights at 2 AM, things only got worse—and the staff, despite being informed, did absolutely nothing.
Also, even though the six-person room has a private bathroom and the guests change every night, it isn't cleaned daily; we had to deal with the smell of urine for two nights, and the bathroom was rendered unusable thanks to one guy.
The location is good, but that’s about it. If you’re actually looking for a place to sleep, it’s not worth the price. The staff has zero authority, and despite the place claiming to be a youth hostel, we encountered uncomfortable situations involving older men in our room. Don't come here.

Good location, uncomfortable and cramped

Good location and decent price, but the beds were uncomfortable and small, the rooms were tiny and cramped, and I got locked out of my room before. The check-in staff was also a bit dismissive and unfriendly.

Bad

Probably one of the worst hostels I’ve stayed at. Been at the Camden of the smart hostel departments and were happy with that so thought this stay would be similar but this were very different in the bad way

Reasonably-priced rooms for short-stay

Stayed with a comrade for two nights, Friday 3rd-Saturday 4th July at Smart Hostel Russell Square. My comrade had an en-suite room, I had a room with access to shared toilets and showers. The room was clean and comfortable and the other guests abided by the rules to be quiet. The first keycard I was issued didn't work but the staff member at the front desk was able to issue a keycard that worked upon request. The hostel is a short distance from the nearest bus stop, so very accessible, and the rooms were reasonably priced for central London.
