A lovely old mansion undergoing renovation and upkeep in keeping with it's age. Scaffolding on the outside wall which made the entrance rather difficult to find especially as the sign was rather small.
Lovely room, stone which kept it cool (much appreciated) but of course no double glazing which made it noisy from the families shouting and drinking with the children screaming and running, as they do! Actually the adults were louder than the children!
Bed was comfy, room had both a fan and a heater, towels were plentiful and shower, when I worked out how to get hot water, was good. Lovely sitting area, plenty of parking so overall, recommended

Avoid this dirty run down place

Avoid, dirty run down awful. Black mould , smelly drains broken windows , stained carpet, cobwebs, staff fighting in the bar … and there’s more but you get the idea.

Evening menu great, b/fast very poor.

1st night.
Very friendly staff, unfortunately food is not served after 19.45.
After our table was cleared the waiting staff walked past our window at 8 pm and never came back.
The place was like the Marie Celeste and I had to go searching for staff and coffee and desert.
2nd night.
Restaurant closed early due to football but again nobody informed us.
Next morning had breakfast which for £16.95 each was very disappointing, diden’t bother for the second day.
3rd night.
Louise was on duty for 15 hours and the service and attitude was great.
We stayed in the annex Down the road which was adequate.
It needs updating and some Tlc.
To be fair the hotel is under new ownership and the main hotel is undergoing repairs.
The food served in the evenings was really good but let down by the breakfast.
If the owners are able to turn it around it has the capability to be a lovely hotel, but not at the moment.

We stayed in the lodgings that’s part of the old lodge . There’s no parking not easy to find. Our room was number 29. Upon entering the carpet is filthy the room was covered in dust there was hair in the bath. The velux window blind was broken. The main window did not close properly the window didn’t open properly because of the guttering. We booked 2 rooms for 6 people but only got a double bed in each.
