Staff member at reception on arrival was super friendly and made some great recommendations of things to do during our stay. The room was a great size and clean.
We throughly enjoyed breakfast most morning. Food was hot and a good selection of hot items were available. There wasn't a great selection of Continental items available. But what was there was fresh and tasty.

Disappointed

This is my 4th visit but leaving a bit disappointed. The hotel is very jaded but my room this time was really poor - faded worn carpets, shabby furniture, curtains tattered and hard to close. No rolls at breakfast this morning at 7.30am. This hotel is in a great position with great staff but......

Unsafe- extremely mouldy

Please note that these experiences were shared by many on the upper floor, as the roof leaks in multiple locations and isn’t being fixed, leading to mould on this floor.
The good: The staff were friendly and tried to help, where possible.
It’s in a great location, near the ferry station, shops, main streets etc.
The so so: our bathroom was newly renovated, and clean.
The common areas had leaking roofs (with moudly planks holding the water out), threadbare carpets, uneven stairs.
The elevators were very tiny (common in older buildings) and took upwards of 5-10 mins to arrive).
Bathroom door had to be closed to prevent fire alarm from sounding (never seen this before).
The bad:
The room was completely unsafe. The mould was in the floors, the walls, the air. We ended up sick and coughing for days. (Although we attempted to switch hotels, it was too late once we had arrived, as the hotels were all full.) The deodorizer used to cover the smell of mould was overpowering and awful. Paint was bubbling from the walls (mould underneath), carpets were unevenly squishy indicating mould underneath.
Please note that this is the hotel used by Globus, Trafalgar, Rolf’s and other major tour companies.

I had a lovely stay at The Royal Hotel Oban the first room was a bit tired but look past that and appreciate how clean it was bed towel tip top. The second room was very clean also bathroom had been upgraded very nice. Staff were all very helpful but the creme del a creme breakfast a lovely selection of very well prepared food if anyone finds fault could you ask them what they have at home

My partner & i were in Oban for a few days decided to stay an extra night, clean room but very dated,£116 room only for one night, much better options in Oban for the same price or around £20 more, The staff were very helpful we couldn't fault them.
