Russell House no longer Russell Hotel

Russell Hotel is now Russell House and has had a major glow up! We stayed as a family of 10 in August. The house is absolutely beautiful, hosts are fantastic would highly recommend staying here. Loved watching the sunrise and sunsets from the balcony the egg chair was so relaxing. Could not have wished for a better stay.

bad experience

Stayed at the Russell hotel with my family for 1 night which was long enough. When taken into our room on first inspection the room looked nice. Once left in the room having a look around we found dust, spiders just didnt feel clean. We had the room with a jacuzzi bath first we had to clean the bath out ourselves, once bath was full we turned the motor on for the jacuzzi and black slime came out of the jets. Was very disappointed as the room wasnt cheap. Would not stay here again.

Better that staying at the palace hotel

I have stayed at the Russell hotel any times it has been like a second home to me.
The new owner is a great guy so friendly and caring nothing is to much for him to do for people staying. It was redecorated last year to a very high standard, decor is beautiful and it's a pleasure to have breakfast looking out to the sea front. Rooms are spotless and cleaned everyday and the breakfast is top notch best breakfast I've had.
Great atmosphere too Sean is so happy and is always smiling even when under pressure sometimes you forget he's the owner and he seems more of a friend, he even took me to the hospital when I was told by doctor to go there urgently and when I was ready to be discharged came an picked me up which was so kind and bunch of flowers and my favourite dinner was waiting for me when I got back to hotel.
In the evening some of the guestsvwent into lounge and we had a quiz and such a laugh, all in all if I won the lottery and could stay in any hotel it would definetly be the Russell Hotel Paignton not the Ritz or the Palace or the Grand it would definitely b the Russell

Good hotel

Staff excellent very friendly and welcoming, was shown to the room which was nice as usually you are just given the key.
Good accommodation, clean if a little a basic.
Breakfast was not the best, it was just given to us without asking what we wanted and although it was hot and well presented I don't like beans and my plate was half covered in beans as was some of the food so I was only able to eat some of the food on my plate
Could not get onto Wi-Fi as there was no code available and no member of staff to let us know what it was so unable to use.

Thank you for your kind words. The breakfast was described on arrival and no request was made to remove the beans. The wifi code is provided after guests have unpacked as there is a lot to take in on arrival. But we will leave the code in the bedrooms from now on to assist future guests.

Lovely stay at the Russell Hotel

We stayed at the Russell from the 30th August till 6th September 2014. The new owner Sean is very welcoming and friendly. We stayed in the Paignton Sands room (room 2), with balcony overlooking the green, the sea, Paignton Pier and in the distance Torquay. The room is bright and airy with a large window and side door leading to the large balcony. On the balcony is a small table with two chairs so you can sit, relax, and take in the views. The décor of the room is done to a high standard and the en suite is of an adequate size with shower. The room has tea and coffee making facilities, which were replenished daily and the towels that were provided by the hotel were changed mid week.
Breakfast was taken in the nice bright dining room. There was a great choice of cereals on offer plus fruit juice. The full English consisted of egg, bacon, sausage, grilled tomatoes and baked beans. this was accompanied by toast, butter and a choice of jams, tea or coffee. Sean would make sure we had everything we needed and more beverages and toast was available if we wanted them. We found the breakfast substantial enough to last us most of the day only needing a small snack at lunch before eating in the evening. The hotel is in walking distance of all amenities, train station, bus station and the main shopping street. We enjoyed a trip to the Paignton Zoo, a ride on the Steam Train from Paignton to Kingswear, then took the ferry ride over to Dartmouth. Also took a trip to Brixham, then took the ferry back going to Torquay, which took about half an hour and cost just a £1 each. Bargain!! We also visited Teignmouth and Plymouth for days out. We travelled to Paignton for our holiday by train so used the public transport system for all our journeys without a problem.
We would highly recommend a stay at the Russell Hotel, thank you Sean for your hospitality.
If you Google the Russell Hotel, Paignton, you will see the new website which shows pictures of the accommodation available since the refurbishment.
