A tasteful and beautiful historic hotel

I really enjoyed my stay here and would definitely stay here again. The communication before arriving was always fast and professional. The lobby is comprised of essentially two smallish rooms, one was seating and the other reception. They are charming and beautiful and bustle with interesting people going through to the pub which is in the back, which is adjoined to the spacious restaurant. I stayed in one of their smaller rooms, but it was perfectly fine for a solo and even two people should be able to get along. Heads up that there was no air-conditioning though a small fan was provided. My room faced the main street, and there was a significant amount of chatter and such during the day. This really didn't bother me, but it might bother some. Things get really quiet after sunset, like really quiet. It's great to be right in the hub of everything in this small but extraordinarily charming medieval town. You can walk to all the fun places, and it's a short ride to the only sandy beach with dunes in England. Reception was always friendly and resourceful. It's a class operation.

Wonderful over night stay in a beautiful Hotel.

Home from an overnight stay at The George.
The hotel is beautiful & a labyrinth of different rooms.
Staff are all so friendly & welcoming.
Our room was absolutely beautiful. We were lucky to be upgraded.
As we entered there was soft music coming from the little radio on the side, a lovely touch.
Queen size comfortable bed. Tv , armchairs, lovely views from the windows, the bathroom had a free standing bath, and the shower was a good size, with shampoo/ conditioner/ soap to use & bath robes should you need one. Perfect.
We had a drink in the bar where the young man was very accommodating in recommending drinks.
We booked an evening meal in the hotel restaurant. Food was delicious, and service great. Unfortunately I didn’t get any names, but every member of staff were all so nice.
We had breakfast in the morning which runs from 8am until 10 am I believe. There was a choice of items to have while you waited for your ordered cooked item to arrive.
All cooked beautifully.
Checkout was easy.
We had parked a short walk away in the large market carpark which is £3 for 24 hours.
I would definitely recommend and return to the George if we ever visit Rye again ..
We loved it …

Shame about the 35-minute wait for breakfast

A beautiful dog-friendly restaurant. Our bedroom was beautifully decorated. However, our visit was marred by having to wait 35 minutes for our breakfast - which only arrived after another guest (who had arrived 10 minutes after us) complained on our behalf.

Disappointing

The location is fantastic and there are lots of nice touches but the fundamentals were lacking.
Fundamentally our room at the top of the building was far too hot to sleep well even with the window open and a noisy fan on.
My advice to the hotel is not to market these top floor rooms in summer. Breakfast service was slow and they ran out of chocolate croissants which was not ideal when the continental option is a bit of fruit, croissants and some (very nice) granola.
The food in the evening was very good, generally service was friendly and the decor is nice. This place has the potential to be really excellent but my advice would be to stay somewhere quieter off the main high street and somewhere with aircon or airier rooms.

Really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful rooms, very friendly staff, ideal location in the town, tasty breakfast. Courtyard is a great addition for an al fresco drink in the summer. Room was a little warm at night, but a fan was provided. An excellent boutique hotel, we will be back!
