Three night stay for the Torquay Air Show
My wife and I booked 3 nights in this property to cover the Torquay air display show. We arrived on the Friday by train and I had already enquired about leaving our bags as we would be earlier than the 15.00 check in. On arrival at about 11.45 we was received by a friendly receptionist and our bags were taken to be stored. She also advised that we may be ok to check in earlier , we arrived back about 13.30 with a view to if the room was not ready we would have a drink in the bar and sit outside on the garden area. We were told that the room was ready and the lady fetched our bags and carried them to the room for us, room 122. The hotel was extremely clean and our room was found to be a family room with double and single bed. Well stocked drinks area and also bathroom utilities. The beds were comfortable and again clean and the room had a fan in the wardrobe and a air drier in the draw. Slight down side was that the TV could perhaps be a size larger but as we only slept in the room its only a comment. The hotel is also situated good for busses in both directions and the train station. There is also on site car parking which we did not require. There is also a indoor pool but we did not visit this. We would use this accommodation again.

Hotel was a huge disappointment.
The Abbey Sands hotel Torquay should be more aptly named "Shabby Sands". We found the hotel to be in a very run down state and dirty. It wasn't just a few days dust and grime, probably months. Breakfast was all buffet style, help yourself, there wasn't much choice with cereal, just 3., museli, cornflakes and weetabix. So none that kids would choose to eat. English cooked breakfast was also on offer, but seemed very greasy. One morning they had ran out of brown bread. I questioned why, I was told the delivery never arrived. There are plenty of supermarkets nearby where they could have picked some up. When I actually booked the hotel I was lead to believe the outdoor pool would be open. Apparently it's on the hotel website that it is closed. I never saw that. However I did see the lovely picture of an outdoor pool which must have been taken years ago., in actual fact it is empty of water and full of grime and weeds. The location of the hotel is very good, couple of minutes walk and you're on the sea front. Our room was very small for what they called and an executive double, the carpets were stained and the walls had dirty marks and cobwebs. The ensuite was ok, but the shower was very slow due to the shower head not being cleaned properly and lime scale buildup. For the price we paid we expected a lot more. If you fancy a drink from the bar in the evenings, good luck finding someone to serve you.

Return visit, needs improvement but hope is there
We stayed in 2024 and on the basis of that stay booked again. I know it's a new owner and changes happen slowly however there were some areas that there were no excuse for
Positives:
Staff are lovely, couldn't help enough
Our room on the ground floor was modern and clean
Breakfast was nice, limited choice but to get runny eggs is always a bonus
Location is perfect
The indoor pool was a lot cleaner than our last visit towers included as well which is nice
Negative:
All the public areas needed cleaning, the tables were not wiped from the day we came to the day we left in the terrace lounge. Glasses and cups I ended up taking to the bar that had been left around all week as I couldn't bear to see them anymore. The bar was also always closed unless you asked staff for a drink
We looked around the ballroom and there were dirty cups and dishes all week. That space could be utilised so well as a games/reading room such a shame it's sat derelict
The outdoor pool wasn't open and the grounds really neglected. Such a good potential for a gorgeous outdoor area
Cobwebs everywhere. No dusting seems to be done outside of the rooms
Bar never seemed open always had to find staff for a drink which made us feel a bit like an inconvenience
Our room wasn't serviced once in the week we stayed and had to empty our own rubbish and source new towels most days ourselves
The whole place has such good potential for weddings, events and family stays. A good deep clean and investing in a professional gardener would make all the difference. That being said we would definitely come again if a bit more investment was made into the cleanliness in the hope feedback is noted

Please don’t go here!
Where to start? In the website it showed this hotel as having a beautiful garden and an outdoor swimming pool. Neither of these things were true! The whole place was run-down with a derelict empty pool with weeds growing out of it and the garden? What garden? There was no lift, as hotels are meant to have and the breakfast was pathetic. One kind of tea (teabag) and no teapots.
I could go on for pages but what’s the point? It simply needs demolishing.

Great location, Friendly atmosphere
Perfect distance from the beach. Really good value for money, try finding a building as unique as this for the same price! The room was very clean, friendly atmosphere and very attentive staff. Will be booking again
