Rubbish

We had the deluxe double (allegedly) we was in the annex at the back next to the car park. The room was a disgrace it had a musty smell, a stained carpet, a mattress that you could feel the springs through, a pillow that was like it had been filled with sand, many tiles in the bathroom were cracked, the shower was really poor. Basically the room needed a proper deep clean and re decorating and the bathroom does too. You have a one and a half hour window for breakfast, we arrived and had to wait 15mins to be seated and then an extra 45mins to recieve our breakfast which was very average. We wrote an email to complain before we left and got a response 12 hours later saying they wasn't a le to deal with it and will pass it on to someone who can, that never happened. So we wrote another saying we're still waiting on a response for the first email. I would never stay here again could and should have gone to Churchills just round the corner or probably just anywhere else....you live and learn!

Terrible room and worse customer service

Awful stay in an alleged deluxe double room. Total con!
The room was dated, stains visible across the carpet, mattress was all broken springs and flat, hard pillows. No toiletries, water etc provided. Shower was a dribble. There is literally nothing good to say about this hotel. Out of sheer fairness we raised our feedback with the hotel directly while we were there, but to date we have not had any response despite chasing. The way they treat their customers is truly awful and disrespectful when you spend close to £300 for two nights. I would never stay here again - by far one of the worst hotels and customer service we have ever received.

In a good position

Positives - the main building and breakfast were all lovely and it’s in a good position for exploring York - about a 15 min walk to the minster. Staff that served us were all friendly.
Negatives- we stayed in an annexe room near the car park and for me it could do with a deep clean ., it reminded me of going backpacking ,very basic and the bathroom had a funny smell to it. Also paying £15 to park in the B&Bs own car park is just odd.

Wonderful

First, I want to say that all the employees were nice and helpful in every way. Vicky is exceptional, very welcoming, funny and always interested in how you spent your day. The B+B is in a good location, on a quiet street, about a 20 minute walk to York Minster, The Shambles etc. The rooms are small and no lift but that is just how it is in most of Europe. The breakfast was wonderful with lots of choices both hot and cold. Overall a pleasant stay at both the B+B and in York!
