In teh middel of Town

One of the older if not oldest Hotels in Town, but rooms are quite nicely refurbished. Still old stile with the charm of the 70th. There are 3 room types, A, B and renovated. Prices go from 100-140US$ this sounds much, but is normal range for DRC.
I stayed in the second floor in a room towards the street. Noise during the day, but Ok at night. Where the rooms towards the inner patio are heavily influenced by the band who is playing there until 23:00.
Big King size bed, air condition bathroom OK. I have stayed in much worse places in DRC. Its located right in the centre of town. The room had a rather new flat screen TV with about 20 channels mostly French but BBC and CNN where also available.
All in all a good experience.

WORST EXPERIENCE

One of the worst experiences I had in Lubumbashi. I would never recommend this place to anyone.
Place is driven by arrogance especially from the Manager/Owner.
I am too dissatisfied that I cannot continue to type about how horrible my experience was.

I think this hotel is 60 plus years old and it shows. Dark wood and old furniture are at the order of the day. I do not mind some challenges - especially in Africa - but at $100 per night it is very expensive,
Cracked tiles, cracked balcony floors (how safe are these), dirty bathtubs and paperthin towels are a few of the things to look forward to.
My inside chain lock was just a chain on the wall and a metal plate with a big hole - way too big for the chain.
They decided to paint a strip of red pint along the wall and floor skirting - probably for decoration, However - they painted over all the light switches and plug sockets - making these stuck from the dry paint so you have to force plug in and hit it hard to switch it on.
The handheld shower is mounted at a 90 degree angle from the wall - so when you open it fully it sprays water against the back wall and over the toilet - the little shower curtain is so twisted it does little to prevent this.
For some reason you also only get a bar of soap - no shampoo or any other items to wash with.
Also a very weird hanger system in the cupboard - a wooden pole going through the top of the sold hanger - meaning you can't remove these to hang up clothes. Very frustrating especially if you look at the size of the cupboard and the fact that there is no light.
After a long flight you do not want to hassle with these small things.
I ordered food one night and this was also a disaster - got the wrong item. Please do not put stuff on your menu if you do not know how to prepare these.
The bed was OK, the foyer classic and the outside courtyard area pleasant enough to enjoy a cold beer. But this hardly makes up for the lack in other areas.
Advice to the owners - take the $100 per night and slowly start upgrading rooms. I am sure the Park can be restored to its previous glory - but for now I will not be staying here very soon. There are other cheaper options - still not great but not at $100 a night either.

Much improved in the past year

Having offered a not entirely positive review of Park Hotel last year, I feel obliged to pick up my pen again now after my most recent visit in May 2012. The hotel has changed, without it necessarily having gone through a major renovation. I found the management keen and attentive and the restaurant is certainly much improved - with a very reasonable 'menu du jour' and plenty of choice from the a la carte menu also. Good cooking with fresh produce at a reasonable price. The rooms have not changed much (actually for several decades), but everything was there, including a perfectly reasonable wi-fi internet connection and satellite TV. The hotel is centrally located but not noisy.

Fading charm, not always making for a good value hotel

The Park Hotel, right in the centre of Lubumbashi, has been the city's main hotel for 80 years. It is well-staffed and contains all required facilities. However, the restaurant was slow (especially given that there were only a handful of diners in the evening), and their choice of red wine limited to two very expensive bottles. The rooms, whilst a good size and generally well maintained, are straight out of the 1970s. And it is certainly not cheap. Frankly there are other better value competitors in Lubumbashi nowadays.
