An opportunity to disconnect
We booked Forests Resort online and, based on the name, expected it to be much larger. The term *"resort"* is a little misleading, as this is more of a boutique guesthouse than a traditional resort.
The property consists of two cottages, each divided into two accommodation units, along with a larger separate building, we were not sure if this was used for additional guests, we didn’t ask. Despite its small size, the hotel offers a peaceful retreat away from the busy streets of Sigiriya, which turned out to be one of its biggest strengths. It is also conveniently located close to major attractions, including Lion Rock, making it an excellent base for exploring the area.
We arrived after 10 p.m., by which time the restaurant had officially closed. However, the staff kindly prepared the meal we ordered on arrival. It turned out to be the best meal we had during our stay in Sigiriya, and their willingness to accommodate us after hours was greatly appreciated.
Breakfast was simple but satisfying. We were asked whether we preferred an omelette or fried eggs, while the rest of the breakfast was served regardless. It typically included fresh fruit, toast, juice, and a selection of local breads or pastries that varied from day to day. Although not extravagant, it was fresh, filling, and a pleasant way to start the morning.
Our room was spacious, with two dressing tables, a separate bathroom and shower, and effective air conditioning. There was no bathtub, which wasn't an issue for us. However, the shower was cold in the morning. One small downside was that the bedroom air-conditioning unit blew directly onto the bed, making the room quite chilly during the night. After requesting an extra blanket on our second evening, the staff happily provided one without hesitation.
There was no TV in the room, neither were we given a WIFI password which makes this place slightly off grid, allowing for guests to disconnect from modern technology.
The room also featured a private balcony, although we kept the doors closed most of the time to avoid mosquitoes. Thankfully, mosquitoes were not much of a problem during our stay.
While Forests Resort may not live up to its name as a "resort," it more than makes up for its size with its warm hospitality. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to help, creating an atmosphere that felt more like staying in a welcoming family home than a hotel. If you're looking for a quiet, comfortable, and affordable place to stay near Sigiriya's main attractions, this might be an option.

Comfortable stay
The staff is very helpful. They were keen to help and guided us well in exploring the area. They made our stay very comfortable.
The property is only around 20 minutes from the sigiriya rock. So you can plan an early morning visit
