A Wonderful Boutique Stay in Kandy – We Wish We Had Stayed Longer
Clove Villa was one of our favourite accommodations during our entire journey through Sri Lanka, and our only regret is that we stayed for just one night. We were sent there as part of our itinerary organized by @RedDotTours, and it turned out to be one of the best accommodation choices of the trip.
We were welcomed by the chef and his colleague, both of whom spoke excellent English and immediately made us feel very well looked after. From the beginning, the atmosphere was warm, personal and completely different from that of a large commercial hotel.
The villa itself is beautiful, with comfortable rooms, lovely furniture, good bathrooms and very comfortable beds. We also appreciated the small details in the bathroom, including the individual toiletries — shampoo, creams and other amenities presented in small Clove-branded bottles with a clove fragrance. It was a simple but thoughtful touch that matched the character of the villa perfectly.
Dinner was one of the highlights of our stay. Everything was prepared with care, and we particularly remember a delicious aubergine dish. The chef told us that it was based on his grandmother’s recipe and was something special to him. Whatever the exact recipe, it tasted wonderful, and that personal story made us appreciate it even more.
The evening atmosphere was also unforgettable. From the terrace we watched huge flying foxes crossing the sky, and later we could see some of them in the trees while enjoying the pool. It was a beautiful and very special Sri Lankan evening.
We had to leave very early the following morning, and the team prepared a takeaway breakfast for us. Even this was memorable: the sandwiches were genuinely excellent — not just a basic packed breakfast, but sandwiches that felt as though they had actually been prepared by a chef. It was a small detail, but one we still remember.
Clove Villa was one of those places where, instead of being ready to continue our journey, we genuinely wished we could stay another day or two.
Beautiful property, excellent food and, above all, very warm and personal hospitality. Thank you for a wonderful, although far too short, stay. We would happily return and definitely recommend Clove Villa to anyone visiting Kandy.
