A comfortable and cozy stay!
I knew this place didn’t get the best reviews — in fact, it’s perhaps the worst rated Hilton in all of Gainesville — but I wanted to try it all the same (I usually stay at another Hilton property when I’m in town). And it really wasn’t THAT bad.
I was very grateful my room was ready a couple of hours before the official check-in time, and I was greeted with a warm welcome when I arrived. And yes, I was even offered their famous warm cookies! The room I had requested in the Hilton app wasn’t available, but staff explained why (a very valid reason) and offered for me to choose whatever other room worked for me (from the map) — I’d also received a free upgrade prior to arrival, which was a nice perk! Also nice to be recognized as a DR member :)
The hotel does have a little bit of a weird smell to it (damp, maybe?), but my room was neat and clean, and aside my concern about hitting my head in the entranceway (the rooms have very low ceilings as you enter!) and the fact the balcony was unlocked when I checked in (be sure to check this when you first go to your room!), I really don’t have much to complain about.
Sure, the hotel is slightly worn down (as you can see in the pictures — plus there was something that looked like blood on one of the towels…), but they’ve also made efforts to do some upgrades throughout. I slept really well during my 1-night stay — incredibly cozy and VERY quiet overnight! That being said, I could hear some noise from the room above me in the afternoon — just not at night. If I return here for another stay, I think I will choose a room on the third floor.
Super lovely staff at the front desk every time I visited with a question. I also managed to use up my F&B credit in the horribly expensive market in the lobby, which I often find challenging!
Oh, and I also got a little lost wandering around the hotel and couldn’t find the exit after going up to my room the first time. It’s quite a big hotel! I also found the hallways very warm and could tell other guests were smoking marijuana in their rooms on the second floor. Not a deal breaker for my next stay, but not something I find overly pleasant either.

Ask for Britney!
Stayed here last night. Britney greeted from the front desk and it just got better and better from there.
She called me “love” which was very endearing. She accommodated by location request. The room was clean and well stocked. Bed comfortable and room quiet. What more can I ask?

So the highlight was the two women that vanished the bar and it seems all the food delivery and everything they’re super sweet and very hopeful and the food was fresh and I was pleasantly surprised how nice it was

"The front desk staff didn't give us a friendly welcome at all. The receptionist didn't even look us in the eye and just gave a cold 'hi'... I'm not her friend to be treated like that. She didn't want to help with my questions either; all she wanted was for us to leave. The mattress was super soft, and the pillows were a disaster. The air conditioner kept blowing freezing cold air every few minutes, and then it would stop and we'd be sweating. We didn't get any rest at all. I've stayed at this hotel about four times already, but after this experience, I'm never coming back, and I hope no one else does either."

Not a great stay at the Double Tree. It all started with the digital key and check-in which did work and demanded me to present myself at the front desk. Once arrived and having a room assigned, entered the room and there were disposable blue gloves on the floor as well as a very bad odor. To place the cherry on top, we had booked with breakfast included and the last day, breakfast was charged. I call the property, the front desk acknowledged the charge but had to wait for a manager to look at it and get back to me, so until now, have not received any feedback on this.
