I thought we had arrived at the wrong location. It looks like a motel that has been closed for several years - not the most inviting looking place and there is no staff there, which is obviously a bit unique. The room however was quite nice and updated. There are a few restaurants within walking distance. As other reviewers have noted you do hear highway noise from your room.

Convenient location; clean room; room spacious with unusually high ceilings for a motel; interior furnishings OK but not exceptional. Window opened, which we like. Exterior appearance is of a somewhat run-down motel.
BUT: Astonishing level of traffic noise starting 6 AM and continuing through evening and into night. Rooms all face the nearby highway.
ALSO: No staff at desk or on site. Check in by calling the "desk clerk" in a distant town, who helps you access a lock box with the room keys. Apparently, if you need anything you wait until housekeeping shows up the next day. For example, for two people they provided two Keurig cartridges, enough for one cup of coffee each. If you'd like more, as we did, you have to wait until housekeeping gets there (mid-morning?). Want anything else (decaf? tea? different pillow? another blanket? more towels?), I presume you have to wait for housekeeping as well.
Minor beefs: No electrical outlet anywhere near the desk. Flimsy plastic toilet seat tended to fall down. Very low lip on shower pan that barely held the lower edge of the curtain, so that without close attention water ended up on the floor.
Rated 9.6 on Expedia with >500 reviews (many of which apparently dated from when there was still a staffperson on site) -- I don't know how that could possibly be. Ignoring the noise and absence of staff, I would have rated this in the low 7s. With noise and no staff on site, under 5. Felt misled. Cannot recommend staying here.

Check in was contactless and very easy. The room was huge and very clean. I’d definitely stay there again if I ever end up back in Hamden.

Right next to a major road and, thus, loud. This should be obvious from looking at a map but not from the description. This is a roadside motel and, as such, somewhat overpriced.
