Get what you pay for
The rooms are unbelievably small. There was genuinely nowhere to open my suitcase, there’s no real closet, and the sink is in the bedroom. I can’t imagine staying here with another person—there is barely enough room for one person and their luggage.
Privacy was also an issue. My windows were directly above someone’s terrace and looked into the room next to me, so I ended up keeping the blinds closed for my entire stay. It made an already tiny room feel even more like a box.
I also noticed there was no cover on the peephole in my door, and there were visible gaps around the door. I don’t want to be dramatic about it, but it did make me feel less comfortable and secure in my room. I stay in hotels fairly often, and this isn’t something I typically encounter.
The service was frustrating and inconsistent as well. The hotel frequently texts asking if you need anything, but when I actually did, they weren’t particularly helpful. I asked them to bring a delivery up and was told they couldn’t leave it outside my door for “security purposes” and that I needed to come downstairs with my ID. I offered to show my ID at my room door, but they said no. I finally went downstairs, only to be told they didn’t need my ID after all.
Later, I asked if they could bring utensils up to my room and was told no, I needed to come downstairs and get them myself. It made the constant texts feel somewhat pointless.
Even the clock in my room was five minutes slow. It sounds minor, but when you’re traveling for business and working on a schedule, five minutes can make a difference.
The hotel was clean, and the price is cheap for New York, but that’s about where the positives ended for me. The best way I can describe Arlo NoMad is a clean, private hostel. If your priority is simply finding an inexpensive, clean place to sleep in Manhattan, maybe it works. But if you’re looking for comfort, privacy, space, or actual hotel-level service, I’d spend a little more and stay somewhere else.
And I definitely would not recommend it if you’re traveling with another person. There truly isn’t room for two people and their belongings.

I’m sorry that Arlo NoMad left you feeling this disappointed, particularly during a business trip when comfort, consistency, and ease matter so much.
Our rooms are intentionally compact, but I completely understand your frustration with the lack of space for luggage and storage, especially when traveling with everything needed for work. I’m also sorry that the placement of your room left you feeling as though you had to keep the blinds closed throughout your stay. That can absolutely change the way a room feels.
More concerning to me are the issues you raised around comfort and security. Your comments regarding the peephole, the gaps around the door, and the overall sense of privacy have been shared with our Engineering team for review. A guest should feel comfortable and secure once their door closes, and I’m sorry that you did not.
I also understand why the service interactions were frustrating. Being told you needed to come downstairs with identification for a delivery, only to then be told it wasn’t necessary, is confusing. The same goes for reaching out for something as simple as utensils and feeling as though the assistance offered through our messaging system didn’t match the service you actually received. Consistency matters, and in this case we clearly missed it.
Even the clock being five minutes behind may sound small on its own, but I completely understand your point: when you’re traveling for business, the little things matter because your day is often running on a schedule.
I appreciate that you still recognized the cleanliness of the hotel, but I’m sorry there weren’t more positives for you to take away from your stay. Your feedback gives us a very clear picture of where the experience broke down, and I’ve shared it with the appropriate teams so we can review both the physical room concerns and the service inconsistencies you encountered. We would love a chance to welcome you back to show you how your words improved us.

Hidden Mandatory Fees – Not Transparent Pricing
I booked through my company's travel platform, and my confirmation stated that I owed $0 at check-in. It never disclosed that there was a mandatory Urban Fee or what the amount would be. The fee also wasn't mentioned during check-in.
When I contacted the hotel, they directed me back to the booking platform. However, the booking platform informed me that hotels are responsible for providing mandatory fee information so it can be displayed during booking.
The issue isn't the amount—it's the lack of transparency. If a hotel knows your stay dates and room rate, mandatory fees should be included in the total price or clearly disclosed before you arrive. By the time you check in, it's too late to make an informed decision.
If you book here, be aware that the final cost of your stay may be higher than what you're shown when you reserve.

After reviewing the reservation and the confirmation provided, we were able to confirm that the Urban Fee was included within the booking confirmation; however, we also understand your feedback that the information was not presented as prominently as you expected during the reservation process.
We take pricing transparency seriously, which is why our team has also reached out to the booking platform directly to discuss how mandatory hotel fees are displayed and whether that information can be made clearer for future travelers.
We’re sorry this created frustration during your stay, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention. Feedback like yours helps us identify where the experience between the hotel and our booking partners can be improved.
