Beautiful traditional South African house

Oude Pastorie is a beautiful, traditional and historic house with yellow wood floors, high ceilings and large rooms. It benefits from being walking distance from the centre of Cradock with a access to restaurants etc. and also has secure parking.

Room at Old Pastorie

The place is old, and the hot water lasted only a minute. The plank floors were uncomfortable, but the location is good. If you’re staying for just one night, it’s manageable, but personally, it is just to old for me

Tranquil

We loved our stay at the old pastorie. It was walking distance from everything we wanted to see. Quiet at night. The house had everything we needed for a nice relaxing stay. We loved the geese pond outside our door. The garden is beautiful.

SHOCKING....LIES LIES LIES

I am a regular business traveller....this is by far the worst experience at a B&B in 20 years. The gate on the main street has a big arrow on the wall saying Main Gate Around the Corner. The main gate was 30 mteres around the corner and has a cell number on it which we called. I assume the owner answered and advised us to wait 5 minutes and the manager Neville would open up. We phoned several times over the next half an hour!! She ansered ..."he is on his way ,but I will phone him to make sure." Neville arrived by car and said we were at the wrong gate!! He duly opened up the first gate(main gate around the corner!!) and showed us to.... ""the last room in Craddock."" We said we had booked on Booking .Com...he said he had just given tthe last room away to a REGULAR and that we must have booked after 18h00. I said we had booked and Booking.Com and Neville said he had'nt received a notification and that he would take it up with Booking.Com. After some persuasion Neville checked the bank account and was surprised to find the payment in full. This was for the last room advertised by Booking.Com. The owner confirmed we had the last room. This last room in Craddock, clearly hadnt been used for some time as there were cobwebs on the lights and in the corners of the ceiling. There was only one towell for a twin room. Trucks raced by all night literally 5 meters from the beds. Not much sleep was had !! I phoned to complain the next morning and the owner said it was our mistake and that we had booked for the 25th, ( no mention was made of the gates or the alleged booking after 18h00!! ) and whats more she said they were fully booked!! So in short, you book before 18h00 for the last room advertised on booking.com, pay in full, wait at the gate for half an hour while the Mnager was giving our room away in the main complex, behind the main gate, to a REGULAR who had not booked. Given a dirty room that clearly had not been prepared and lied to by both the manager and the owner. Strongly suggest due diligence before staying at the Oude Pastorie .

Friendly staff welcomed me at a short notice and early arrival. All was in good order and exceeded my expectations. Great historical and nostalgic feeling about the place. It's a must visit.
