A Consistently Excellent Hotel
I recently stayed at The Bristol in Bern during a business trip, and once again had an excellent experience.
The location is fantastic and makes it easy to get around the city, but what really sets this hotel apart is the people. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with a genuinely warm welcome that made me feel valued as a guest. The staff consistently strike the perfect balance between being professional, friendly and attentive.
A special thank you to Manuel, who checked me in. He was welcoming, efficient and a pleasure to deal with after a day of travelling.
One thing I've always appreciated about The Bristol is that the team go out of their way to help guests make the most of their time in Bern. During check-in I overheard staff providing recommendations on local restaurants and explaining how visitors can take advantage of the city's complimentary public transport scheme. It's this proactive, personal approach that makes such a difference.
My room was clean, comfortable and very well maintained. I also liked the hotel's sustainability initiative, where guests who choose to skip housekeeping are offered a complimentary drink. It's a simple but thoughtful idea.
Breakfast was another highlight. Having stayed in many European hotels for work, I've become accustomed to fairly basic continental offerings, so it was refreshing to find a very good hot breakfast available alongside the usual selection.
The gym was also well equipped and had everything I needed to keep up my routine while away.
What continues to impress me most about The Bristol is the consistency of the experience. The hotel has excellent facilities, but it's the warmth, professionalism and attention to detail from the team that make it stand out. I always look forward to staying here when I'm in Bern and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

Subterranean
We stayed as follows for a whopping CHF 400.- for one night: in a tiny, tastelessly furnished storage room with a mini-bathroom (about 5m2, sink about 30X20 cm; rickety and dirty shower stall like in a student flatshare); dirty windows with a view of an ugly backyard and a roof covered in pigeon droppings. Breakfast buffet (included): well. Little fresh food, most of it from a can. Furthermore, you sit very close to your neighbor, almost in their lap, because everything is so small and designed for maximum profit per square meter.
This is an absolute outrage and shamelessness. We are Swiss and know the prices in Switzerland. But we have never encountered anything so subterranean before.
The staff, however, are extremely friendly. And they even roll their eyes when you mention the exorbitant prices. The beautiful Swiss capital Bern (with the numerous embassy staff from foreign representations and the administration and many conferences) obviously simply has too few hotels. That is why hotels like this can afford such shamelessness.
Operator of the hotel: a soulless chain. You can already tell by the reactions to the reviews here: AI-generated generic speech. It will be no different with our criticism: "We thank you for your valuable....blablabla."
Avoid this hotel. Extremely overpriced for the service provided.

+ Excellent staff at reception.
- Bedroom was smallest ever and not enticing, almost claustrophobic. No armchair, just a "kitchen" chair. Not a room for a long term stay!
- Soundproofing between rooms could be better.
+ Bed very comfortable.
+ Aircon was great.
+ Location is perfect with train station only a few hundred metres away.

The hotel was centrally located and convenient for many activities. The area combined both historical activities as well as dining, commuter shopping like grocery stores and food stores. The staff at the hotel were helpful and knowledgeable of the area.

Great hotel. Wheelchair accessible.
We stayed at this hotel for two nights, and would have been happy to stay longer. The gentleman on reception was very welcoming and helpful.
We booked an accessible room, which in some places is very hit or miss. Not here. The accessible room was outstanding. The wet room had a fold down shower chair with room to manoeuvre. Everything in the room was within reach for someone in a wheelchair.
Breakfast was wonderful. Loads to pick from. If you can’t find something you like, you really are too fussy.
If we return to Bern, we will definitely be booking this hotel again.
