Friendly and convenient hotel near the WALSA-Weg

We stayed one night here as we were walking along the WALSA-Weg. Our room was modern and simply but well decorated with views out over the valley and mountains beyond. We had a good quality/value dinner with a number of vegetarian options. Breakfast was also plentiful and we enjoyed the scrambled eggs which are not standard fayre at many smaller Swiss hotels. Staff were all friendly. It was a pleasant stay.

Not worth

The view was beautiful, but the cable car was terrible. You had to get a "reservation", and so it could happen that you have to wait 2 hours in the snow. For a price of 80 SwissFranks for a family, it is a shame. Also the WIFI was bad. So it's not worth it.

Highly recommended with and without children

Extremely great for families with children. A large playground and playroom. Gondola directly to the hotel. Barbecue possible 500m away. The food in the hotel is delicious.
We had fun with Claudia. Hope to come back soon.

A unique mountain experience

Although this hotel has existed for many years it had to be rebuilt just a year or two ago because the previous building burnt down. It is really smart and modern and they do good evening meals and a fine spread at breakfast time. But the novelty is the access - in a pair of 4-man cable cars that come up the mountain from the parking places above Flums (free if you are staying in the hotel). But real attraction of this place is the amazing views across the valley both in the evening and in the morning (if you have good weather). It is a place of total tranquility - but there is good (free) wifi everywhere in the hotel and an extensive children's playground and indoor play room. The trek up to the mountain behind the hotel - Gouscha - is steep and precipitous in places, but satisfying. Another useful feature of the hotel is that it is above the main motorway, the A3, which runs along the valley floor, which links Switzerland with Austria - and Germany and Italy - and so you can have a night or two of peace en route.

Kundendienst - Fehlanzeige

Nach dem schweisstreibenden Aufstieg aus dem Weisstannental mussten wir (4 Personen) feststellen dass die Bahn infolge einer Störung leider nicht in Betrieb war. Die anwesende Dame (verantwortlich für den Betriebsablauf....) war äusserst beschäftigt mit Bastelarbeiten (!!) und hielt es nicht für nötig, sich weder um die mögliche Dauer der Störung noch um unsere Sorge zu kümmern, wie wir ins Tal gelangen könnten. Wir empfehlen der Dame dringend einen Arbeitsplatz ohne Kundenkontakt. Wir werden das Berghotel Schönhalden in Zukunft meiden!!
