Excellent inexpensive lunch

I had lunch in the bistro. I ordered a rump steak, medium rare, with mashed potato and pepper sauce. I wanted a smallish simple meal because I was half-way through a long day's drive.
The bistro has quite old fashioned decor, most dark brown, but tables are a good size and chairs are very comfortable. There is a bar in the bistro. It's a quiet, somewhat quaint space.
My steak arrived promptly . It was cooked perfectly and was both tender and very tasty. The mashed potato was nothing special but quite OK. The sauce was excellent, replete with whole peppercorns, thick enough but not too thick and just plain delicious.
Even better, the price was very inexpensive for the quality of the meal.
Often I think the mark of a good restaurant is the ability to do simple meals very well. The bistro at this hotel gets an A+ from me.

Very clean, lovely new bathroom, however the room we had was at the front, excessive roads noise from 4.30am
Bistro onsite, shared kitchen for tea / coffee.
The hotel is ok for a stop over in the very centre of the town.
Staff very friendly and welcoming.

Sad expensive lunch

I’m sorry but the food was lousy, I ordered the roast and it was very average, the meat was bland and flavourless and the veg was minimal. And the potato bake has horrible with way too much garlic. My daughters eggplant parmi was bland and boring and the chips overcooked and my son’s rib eye was supposed to be medium rare and it was like blue. I did take it back and just asked for it to be cooked a little longer but they cooked him a whole new meal which wasn’t necessary as we had all finished and he had lost his appetite. I will say the staff yelled a lot to each other and didn’t really know what was happening. Unfortunately I won’t be visiting again unless some really big changes are made.

Nice big serves and friendly staff.

Good pub food in a basic pub setting.start service at 5.30 which is good for hungry. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana which was undercooked and they happily replaced it when I asked for chicken instead. Excellent pub chips . I HS the lamb cutlets the other night and they were huge and delish

Enjoyable meals and cold drinks

A group of 12 people visited for dinner and drinks on a Thursday night. We had a wide variety of meals and no one was disappointed. The meals arrived in a reasonable time and were enjoyed.
The cold drinks were great.
The only complaint would be the warm milky stuff which was supposed to be coffee. Next time I will order a long black which hopefully will have some taste.
