B&B De Boomgaard
Boomgaard is an intimate bed and breakfast hotel situated in a secluded countryside setting. It is near the Flemish Ardennes, just outside the village of Sint-Lievens-Houtem, and features free Wi-Fi. The rooms and suites at De Boomgaard have cable TV and a minibar. Each of the rooms features Boutique-style décor whilst the suites offer more space and luxury amenities. The centre of Zottegem is just over 10 minutes away by car. De Boomgaard is a 25-minute drive from the sights of Ghent which include the Belfort and the Fine Art Museum. Guests at De Boomgaard can enjoy modern International cuisine and fish specialities in the restaurant which has views of the garden. Please inform B&B De Boomgaard in advance of your expected arrival time. You can use the Special Requests box when booking, or contact the property directly with the contact details provided in your confirmation. My Excellent Go-to Place
A lovely quiet location where you can hear the wind rustling in the trees while you lay in very a comfortable bed. Rooms are spacious and nicely appointed,I know as I have slept in 3 of them. The comforters on the bed are nice to sleep under, but if you want sheets and a blanket you can get that as well.
Breakfast was excellent every time, farm fresh eggs any way you wanted them with a lovely variety of local breads and croissants and all the fixings. Best part of breakfast, truly excellent coffee!
Dinner, I can really recommend the salmon, what was really special is that Mr. Marc went out of his way to make sure I could have dinner even really late. He takes excellent care of his guests. His Irish coffee hits the spot too.
Because of the location and the caring service we decided to have Mr. Marc handle the koffeetafel (family get together after a funeral) for our family. We were not disappointed, all of the family commented on how well Mr. Marc and his staff took care of us. My parents even stayed an extra day because it was so peaceful and service so excellent.

Quiet location
There is a kettle in the room, but if you want tea/coffee etc you are required to provide that yourself.
There was shower gel and shampoo provided, but no soap to wash your hands.
Although when I booked this accommodation it was described as a B&B (as it is on the local signs too) if you want breakfast that will cost extra. Though the breakfast I had was very nice with meat, cheese, bread and croissants as well as being offered eggs.
It’s a lovely quiet location that unfortunately I didn’t have time to explore, maybe on my next trip.
I arrived to Zottegem by train and found that there are no taxis at the train station - it would be wise to book your taxi in advance!

Excellent base in quiet countryside for exploring Gent (30mins,25km by car) and further afield.
Friendly welcome, with a complimentary cold beer, from Marc the proprietor.
Room
Excellent decor,style and cleanliness but bring your own toiletries.This is not a hotel !
Bar/Restaurant
10 metres from accomodation serving quality but unadventurous food.The 3 of us had absolutely no complaints about this menu and enjoyed the breakfasts and dinners on offer.Marc was very obliging to cook late for us after a long days moto ride to Spa Francorchamps Circuit and back !
We believe this to be a quality B and B and highly recommend de Boomgaard .
Just remember , it is not a hotel.

Lovely rooms no soap!
We were pleasantly surprised with the lovely furnished rooms.
However for the the rooms with their tiled floors were absolutely freezing as they obviously hadn't had the heating on for a while. Once the owner had received the booking I would have expected the rooms to be heated as it was very cold!
The rooms had a kettle but no tea or coffee is provided. I even asked the owner and just expected him to bring me a couple of tea bags but in his charming way he told me they don't provide these!
They also are extremely mean with their bathroom toiletries.
We had booked 2 triple rooms...
They only provided 1 tiny shampoo and 1 tiny bath gel in each room.. and no soap whatsoever.
I found it tiresome to have to call the owners to bring more over as I wanted to shower and go to bed and not have to wait for things that should have been there already!
The owner brought another couple of tiny shampoos and tiny bath gels to the children's room but no soap! None to our room!
Talk about being tight fisted and at the prices charged per room I was totally unhappy at the lack of provision of even the basic things. It surely wouldn't cost the owner that much to provide enough bathroom toiletries for the amount of people booked into the rooms. And still no soap was provided...!!!!!
Also this has to be one of the few b&b's where you have to pay extra for breakfast.
The owner wanted to know in advance if we wanted breakfast in the morning. I booked breakfast for 3 of us who wanted it.
When I went to the breakfast in the morning I saw the table had been set for the 3 of us and on the breakfast ta let there were 3 croissants, 3 yoghurts, and I just thought for €12 ahead this was far too much, especially if I'd have like 2 yoghurts myself.
The whole experience was that of staying somewhere where the owner was ungenerous, where nothing was happily given, not enough toiletries to go round, no spare toilet roll in the room, etc
I certainly won't be returning. Our bill for €276 for 1 night for 2 rooms and only 2 people had breakfast (and a very poor basic breakfast at that) was far too much.
