In the center of the town

Small, familly run hotel in the heart of old town Varazdin. Everything is on walking distance, and accommodation is in accordance with advertised standards. This hotel has a great potential to serve as a clinic, because the best equipment is ready when the owners decide to turn from simple hotel to the medical center.

Poor service

Hotel in middle of town but only has 2 car spaces for guests. Waited 20 minutes to check in, ringing the bell at desk but no response. Breakfast buffet was dismal I would be very reluctant to recommend this hotel

Clean and downtown

I was there for 2 nights. The hotel is clean and in middle of Varaždin. The rooms are okey, the window is a Velux, there is no direct view, the shower is to low for adults.
Breakfast is nice and the people are very kind.

Very good value

Hotel Istra is superbly located just off the main square in Varazdin amongst the magnificent Baroque architecture.
As others have said, it's a quiet, basic but spotlessly clean place and will improve a great deal when the bar/restaurant currently being created opens later this year.
Some rooms do have the sloping roof problem which is a little tiresome but the rooms are quiet and beds comfortable so this makes a great base for seeing the local area.

Great Place to Stay in Varazdin

We stayed at the Hotel Istra in Varazdin for 3 nights this past month. The location is superb, right next to the town square and the Town Hall. Coffee bars are everywhere nearby. The hotel is situated on a small street for pedestrians only. The market place is a two minute walk from the hotel. The absence of cars at the hotel entrance made the stay even nicer. Our room was great - a unique corner room with plenty of room. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating and tried very hard to please in every way. The breakfast was very good with a variety of different foods at the breakfast buffet and omelets upon request every morning. Several times during our stay they were kind enough to prepare coffee for us. Parking was free and no problem once we got the hang of it. The immediate area is rich in history with a historic feel to everything nearby. We really enjoyed our stay in Varazdin, and the hotel certainly contributed to a very positive visit. As others have described, it was cozy and comfortable and we would not hesitate to stay at the Hotel Istra again if we came back to Varazdin. Overall, it was a very pleasant, enjoyable experience.
