A very beautiful discovery at the Hôtel-Restaurant du Chêne, in Itxassou
For our last evening in the Basque Country, my wife and I had the pleasure of dining at the Hôtel-Restaurant du Chêne, in Itxassou. Upon our arrival, we were welcomed with great kindness and professionalism.
We chose the €45 menu, which included an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert. To start, we had a small aperitif, accompanied by an exceptional amuse-bouche, which was particularly rich in flavor. The staff also took the time to introduce us to some of the region's products and specialties, which we really appreciated.
The appetizer was perfectly executed: balanced flavors, a neat presentation, and a very appropriate portion size. The main course that followed was also remarkable. The quality of the products, the precision of the cooking, and the combination of the different flavors testified to a true mastery in the kitchen.
You can feel that the chef takes pleasure in creating, in combining several tastes and textures, while maintaining harmonious and perfectly balanced plates. Each dish took us on a journey and allowed us to discover all the richness of her cuisine.
To finish, we let ourselves be tempted by a café gourmand. I asked for a double espresso and, for once, I was fully satisfied: a real double espresso, perfectly served, with a nice intensity. The little treats that accompanied it concluded this dinner in the most beautiful way.
The service was impeccable from start to finish. Each plate was presented to us with precise explanations, always with attention and simplicity.
We did not have the opportunity to discover the hotel, but if its services are on par with the cuisine offered at the restaurant, visitors should not be disappointed.
For two people, with the menus and appetizers, we paid about €110. Considering the quality of the products, the work done in the kitchen, the welcome, and the service, we find the value for money quite reasonable.
My wife and I highly recommend this excellent address to anyone passing through Itxassou or the surrounding area.
A big thank you to the entire staff for their welcome, and especially to the chef for taking us on a journey through her creations during this last dinner of our stay in the Basque Country.

A very nice discovery
Very good meal, especially the trout in all its versions. I recommend this restaurant for a meal with excellent local products

An autumn stay
We were a large group of walkers and stayed here for three nights. the hotel was very comfortable and we were well looked after. The food was excellent. The owners made every effort to ensure that our stay was most enjoyable. The countryside in the area provided some fine walks.
