In the heart of Normandy

A very nice Chambres d'hôtes with a welcoming and kind family.
Excellent breakfast, clean, fragrant and welcoming facility.
The room was very nice with wooden parquet and you felt like you were in Normandy. From the windows you could see the surrounding meadows and woods with grazing cows.
It was also possible to visit the company that raises dairy cows.
Ideal location for visiting the landing beaches and nearby towns (Bayeux, Cane and Isigny sur Mer)
Highly recommended and thanks again to the family for the hospitality received.

A repeat visit after a dozen years.

Last time we stayed in the separate building on the right of the photo. This time, in the house, accompanied by another couple.
A little more than a mile from Dog Red, Omaha Beach, near St. Laurent-sur-Mer, and objective on D-Day. The area is covered in Tour C, of "Battle Zone Normandy: Omaha Beach", by Stephen Badsey and Tim Bean.
The ancient farmhouse was occupied by and damaged by the Nazis although you cannot't tell it now. Our hostess, energetic Odile lLenourichel, operates the b & b, and with her husband a 180 Holstein dairy farm, which if inclined you can request to visit. The operation is far enough removed from the house as only occasionally to be noticeable. But, it is the odor of the country.
Odile speaks no English. She employs a translator on her cell phone. We were fortunate to have the intervention of a Lyonnaise who was happy to practice her English.
Our rooms were quite comfortable, clean, tidy. Breakfast was ample including Odile's homemade yogurt. Her large kitchen is state of the art and immaculate. We got to meet her new granddaughter of whom she was justifiably proud. She gave us a bottle of her own alcoholic apple cider to take with us.
Formigny is convenient not only to the invasion beaches and environs, but to Bayeux, Caen an Mt. St. Michel. It is north of the main highway heading west from Bayeux. My fifteen year old Michelin map of Normandy was too small in scale to be very useful nor did our GPS function. The country roads are narrow, not well marked, and while there is a sign to the farm off the immediate lane, there is none from the crossroads. I printed out a Google Map and measured the distances but it was still a challenge to find, especially in the dark. Odile’s website does not have adequate directions. There may be a detail map of the immediate area or a new Michelin might be clearer.
Highly recommended.

Tranquil and convenient location

We loved this place. The 200 year-old house looks like it was just recently built, and the garden areas are just beautiful. I'm allergic to all kinds of animals so was wondering how I'd do on a working farm, but the barns must be some distance away--or they have the cleanest cows in France. The location couldn't be better for visiting Bayeux and the D Day sites, and there are good restaurants a short drive away. The croissants Odile gets from the nearby town are hands-down the best we had on this 3-week trip. We stayed in the breakfast annex where we and our friend had the two rooms and 1 bathroom upstairs. Wifi was best downstairs in the breakfast room. GPS coordinates: N49 deg 20' 23.8", W0 deg 53' 22.1"

Excellent stay

We stayed 3 nights and had a great time. Amazing hospitality, beautiful environment, a good breakfast.
The location is also good, not too far from the Omaha beach. A great place to stay if you want to explore Normandy.

A gem in Normandy

This is a working farm with an historic farmhouse, Very comfortable and quiet. The room upstairs in the main house was large and comfortable, with its own bath. Located near the beaches and cities, but far enough away to be private. Great escape from hotels in town. Five minute drive to the beach and a great bar and restaurant-get the mussels. English is passable and better than our French. Excellent breakfast. House was used as a German command post during WWII. Plenty of parking. Not hard to find if you follow the signs from the north side of the village of Formigny. Without them you might never find the place.
