Fantastic house and amazing house, a real find.

What a fantastic find, we booked 2 rooms in this cave house and they were truly beautiful. The rooms were sympathetically decorated, enormous with lovely bathrooms. It did not finish there, we were shown through to a large seating balcony with tea and coffee waiting overlooking a large dining area where we had a lovely breakfast which was for our use only. You could see the Loire river from your room window, it as quiet at night and we did not close the window or curtain. Our breakfast was fantastic with tea or coffee, freshly bakes baguettes and homemade jam (apricot, banana, melon and pear). Monsieur and Madame Amat greeted us warmly, they were never intrusive but were happy to chat about the house and surrounding area. Thank you for a lovely stay. They do not accept credit cards only cash.

Lovely

On route back from the South, chose Saumur as a stop over. From reviews we chose Ami Chemin as looked amazing and not commercial or busy. Whilst some comments were saying the building needed some TLC, that was part of the charm. A short drive took us into the centre of Saumur and were recommended Bistro de la Place which was very good. Breakfast was served in the dining room and was fresh bread and lovely home made jams. We chose the cheaper room which was adequate for two of us fro one night. A word of advice, the drive up from the main road is very tight but manageable for most cars with some care

Excellent stay in Saumur

The room was extremely spacious and was the largest one at 100 euros per night. We did have our two large dogs with us and so the space was great. Large bathroom with a heated electric radiator, which we needed at night. Access into the main hall was through our room and tea and coffee were available with a kettle for boiling water. At night the log burner was lit and the whole room took on a very relaxed atmosphere. Wine was available to buy from Xavier's extensive wine list. Home made yoghurt and preserves were available every morning, including courgette jam! Eating breakfast with the other guests(all French) enabled us to hone our French. Only downside was the fact that we had a large car and the car parking outside the Chambre d'hote was tight, and the bend on the hill down into town was very severe, but not impossible to manoeuvre. We walked into town one night, would recommend reflective jackets, which you have in your car, (see review of Le Pot de Lapin). Xavier even helped us to book our appointment with a local vet for the dogs return home.

Good base for the Loire Valley

We stayed for 3 nights. The house is out of town. It took us approx 35 mins to walk to town however it is excellently placed if you are exploring the Surrounding areas. The hosts are lovely, they made us feel so welcome despite our complete lack of french! Breakfast consists of homemade jams, breads and yogurt. Our room was so large it felt like an apartment! I would definitely recommend a visit! The only thing to note is the access by car is very tight but manageable.

Could be wonderful.

We arrived early, Just after 2 and was allowed access to the room. It was spacious and clean. We were staying 3 nights.
We asked if we could have an evening meal and was told they did not provide evening meals.
The B&b is well placed for Saumur and other attractions along the Loir.
BE WARNED we travelled on a Goldwing trike. The road access is dreadful, my brother did not stay with us as he went home early. He was on a solo Goldwing m/c and he would have had great difficulty getting to the hotel.
Breakfast consisted of bread and jam, coffee and fruit juice. It was served outside and was on the table uncovered allowing flies etc to get at it.
The towels were old and very thin while we were there they were not changed at all and the bin only emptied once. No toiletries were provided. There was liquid soap for hand washing but that appeared to have been watered down.
Our window was broken so could not be closed.
Tea and coffee was provided on a mezzanine some distance from the room however there was no milk and water was provided in a refillable bottle.
The garden area was in need of attention. It was overgrown and the garden furniture was old and not pleasant.
This B&B could be wonderful with just a little TLC. It is an amazing house partly built into the cliff face but sadly it currently does not make the grade. I will not be returning.

Il est regrettable que vous n'ayez pas compris l'esprit chambre d'hôtes . Nous ne sommes pas hôtel restaurant, nous n'avons pas de personnel de service mais il suffit de nous demander si vous rencontrer un petit souci.
Le dialogue est préférable aux reproches écrits. Ce commentaire est d'autant plus surprenant que vous êtes partis en nous faisant de grands signes et un grand sourire.
