Strandhotel Terschelling, Hotel at the coast line

It is a nice cosy hotel at the coast line of the North-sea. The distance to the sea is less then 100 meters. Rooms are small with no private bathroom nor toilet and without mini bar. The public bathrooms are clean.
The hotel has a kind of homy living room where you do not have to order anything if you do not want to. The staff is kind and friendly. The kitchen is not Haute cuisine, but the serve a nice plate.
We visited Terschelling in the winter period 2017-2018. We had a nice and pleasant stay, hired a bike (7,50 euro p.d) and discovered the island.

A place that really needs love and attention

Our first experience with Terschelling, what a beautiful island, definitely worth it! Full of enthusiasm booked the beach hotel. The location of the hotel is really beautiful, the view of the sea is phenomenal, especially with a sunny day. The nearby beach bar is super to sit and eat. Upon arrival we were amazed at the state of the hotel. We had missed the memo that the sanitary facilities must be shared with the other guests in the hotel, this was certainly not our preference but there were enough toilets and showers to not have to wait. Showers were fine, seemingly clean but really in need of a fixer-upper. It was not free of mold;). The feeling evoked by the brown stains in the clean towels then does not contribute to the overall experience. The room was small but fine in itself. The curtains terrible to draw because this required a lot of patience to move the curtain piece by piece on the rod. The beds were nothing wrong with it but the carpeting didn't make it inviting to move around without footwear. Breakfast was more than fine! Not super extensive but tasty fresh bread rolls, fresh fruit and enough choice to lay a nice base for a day exploring the island. Staff was also friendly! In short, the hotel itself really needs love and attention but there were certainly plus points but for us it was a one-off.

Beautiful location, does need maintenance

Location is beautiful. Great view from the room. Breakfast is more than fine. Staff wants to work hard, very friendly. We knew we had to share the sanitary facilities, they looked clean but a bit run down. The rooms were certainly not the newest and did need some work, but were clean (apart from the sand we brought with us). The appearance of the hotel could have been a bit neater, just sweep the broom, etc.
Long story short, it is a beautiful place but the hotel needs maintenance.
Tip! Bring (bath) slippers.

A hotel like Marmite, either you hate it or you love it

This hotel is a one of a kind, and earlier reviews show that you either love it or hate it. I love it because of the location (40 m from the beach, in the dunes) and because of its simplicity. If you love luxury and privacy, it's better to go somewhere else. Shower and loo are on the corridor, the walls are thin and there's a common living room that doubles as restaurant. The service is typically Dutch: very informal and no-nonsense (some might find it rude, I would say a bit unpolished). Breakfast is delicious and included in the price.
I would not stay here for two weeks, but if you want a few days rest, in nature, close to the sea, it's great. Just be sure to bring your earplugs, ask for a room with 'zeezicht' (seaside) and try to get room 16 or 17, on the ground floor looking out on the sea.
Don't bring your car. It's very expensive on the ferry and you really don't need it, everything is in cycling distance and geared towards cyclists. I rented my bike at Thijs Knop, 50 meters from the ferry and they bring your bag to the hotel, while you cycle (about 9 km).

A break from it all..!!

Surprisingly pleasant little hotel "in the middle of nowhere", steps away from the water.
Highly recommended for those who want to have a peaceful time. Food is very decent, prices are reasonable (not cheap) and the people is very friendly and helpful.
For couples there is one thing to consider, the walls are very very thin so you hear what your neighbour three rooms away is talking about. Just keep the tv on at all times and you'll be fine ;)
Also, toilets and showers are shared.
The ride to the supermarket and the cafe takes less than ten minutes. Midlands cafe's and bank are fifteen minutes away on your bicycle.
The only issue I had was the wifi signal, very unstable.
Personally, a great experience.
