Hospitality

A crazy hospitality! We are a group of 5 people on an annual paddle tour along the Norwegian coast. We have met a lot of good places and people on the road. Coincidentally, it's the football World Cup, and we wanted to watch the match on TV. Here they take in against tired paddlers and serves at the best level according to us. The food was perfect with a touching service. Definitely recommend stepping by here if you are nearby! Thank you!

One of the most disappointing hotel stays I've had

The entire hotel screams, "We haven't renovated in decades." The interior feels as though it has been pieced together from a flea market. Garden furniture has been thrown into the main lounge alongside worn-out Chesterfield sofas that should have been retired years ago. Nothing conveys the feeling of a spa or resort, only a business that stopped investing in its hotel long ago while continuing to charge premium prices as if it were exclusive.
Hankø Spa & Resort sells a dream through its marketing. The reality is something completely different. The photos on the website and the pricing create expectations of quality, but what we encountered was a hotel that feels tired, neglected, and outrageously overpriced. We are leaving with the feeling that we have been misled, and tomorrow's breakfast buffet will have to break every world record just to earn back its half point. That is exactly why I am writing this review.
The hotel gives a strong impression of being on the verge of bankruptcy. On a Saturday in the middle of peak season, there were only around 20–30 "dissatisfied guests" in a hotel with the capacity to accommodate several hundred. Sadly, it doesn't feel like the problem is a lack of guests, but rather a lack of resources to properly maintain and operate the property.
I genuinely feel sorry for the reception staff who are forced to stand there and justify this Chernobyl-style summer camp that the hotel has been turned into through years of severe neglect. They deserve far better than having to defend a product that is so far removed from the exclusive spa experience the hotel advertises.
I have a formal education in hotel and tourism management with an international focus, and I have both worked in and stayed at hotels and resorts of every price range around the world. Unfortunately, I cannot give Hankø Spa & Resort more than half a point, and that is solely because I feel sorry for the employees.
I would genuinely like to see one of the owners answer the following questions:
26°C hot tub?
20°C "heated" swimming pool?
Failure to pick guests up despite promises, along with a complete lack of customer service?
Having to drag your suitcase 950 metres over gravel, or pay extra for the chance of maybe being picked up?
Dirty carpets almost everywhere?
What I consider to be false and misleading marketing?
Four employees expected to run an entire hotel on a Saturday during peak season?
The unbelievably arrogant pricing considering what guests actually receive?
The fact that almost everything costs extra afterwards?
Beds that, in our experience, smelled of urine and appear to date back to the 1980s, nearly 47 years old?
A mattress topper barely one centimetre thick?
Water damage in the bathroom ceiling?
The smell of cigarette smoke lingering throughout large parts of the hotel?
A spa that is practically unmanned and run down?
A hotel that gives the term "basic standard" an entirely new meaning?
This place is so incredibly neglected that, in my opinion, it is astonishing that it is still being marketed as a spa and resort. As a business owner, you have a responsibility to deliver what you charge people for. Here, it feels as though that line was crossed many years ago.
I encourage anyone working in the hotel industry, anyone with a heart, business sense, and respect for customers' money, to take a closer look at this place. With relatively modest investment, some passion, and above all the one thing the current management completely lacks—class—this property could be transformed into something truly remarkable.
I don't believe it will be long before this hotel is put up for sale. The surroundings are absolutely stunning, and the potential is enormous. Turning this place from a complete disaster into a five-star destination would be like opening a free restaurant in Bangladesh. The demand is already there; all that's missing is someone who actually knows what they're doing.
This experience has been absolutely unbelievable and has left me with a disturbing impression of just how badly a hotel can deteriorate while still being marketed as some kind of success story. It is difficult to understand how this level of neglect can still be sold as an exclusive spa and resort experience.
Hotels.com apparently considered our experience poor enough to offer us compensation of NOK 330. The problem is that our stay cost approximately NOK 3,000. (Inc ferry 2pers round trip 240:-) (Parking 115:-)Note that the ferry is the same owners as the hotel!
If the hotel genuinely believes the standard we were presented with justifies that price, I would be very interested to hear them explain why publicly. As far as I'm concerned, a refund of the majority of the amount paid would have been the only reasonable resolution.
What surprised me the most wasn't even the condition of the hotel itself, but the fact that Classic Norway Hotels has chosen to put its name behind this property. When a hotel chain actively promotes a hotel under its brand, it also shares responsibility for the expectations it creates. In our case, those expectations were not even close to being met.

Nice stay

Not the best score from customer reviews, but I wanted to give it a chance. Welcoming staff, nice and clean room. Good sleep. Maritime interior. Relaxing location, perfect for families. Not so happy with the food in Seilerkroa. The burger meal was not so tasty. The hotel promotes it's focus on the environment and make fertilizer from food waste, and offer small give-aways to give hotel guests. In the shower in the bathroom, hot water comes after a few seconds, also saving water and power. Nice stay at this three star hotel.

Perfect place both for anniversaries and summer holidays for families

Thank you Hankø for the most amazing stay and birthday-aniversary celebration. This place is absolutely perfect for occasions like these, and it somehow reminds me about the romantic and classy Kellerman's hotel resort from Dirty Dancing! :D It has the same old fashioned style and class, private and with a perfect location.
Even though we were there to celebrate an aniversary, I srongly consider bringing my three small children there for the summer, as it must be the most ideal summerholiday destination for small kids with huge playgrounds, a small beach, mini golf, you name it..
Thank you also so much to Marianne who is the most amazing eventplanner I have ever worked with - for your kind help and smooth arrangement!
We will certainly be back! <3

We were 85 people who celebrated that it was 50 years since we left Ski Gymnas. It became a fantastic great event much thanks to the staff at the hotel. Everyone in the staff stood up for us all weekend and helped make this weekend absolutely fantastic... so professional, so welcoming and always with a smile. Thanks to all of you.
