Would definitely stay here again

We decided to book here for the Cartmel races and we glad we did. The Engine is a beautiful old traditional English pub, sat outside next to the river is very tranquil. Good selection of wines and beers are on offer and the bar area is very cosy.
We stayed for one night, our room was a good size and a decent size bed.
Our host was exceptional, he really helped us out when we got stuck at night, so with this above and beyond service I rate the Engine 5 stars..
We would definitely stay here again.

Run down & filthy.

Quaint old Inn. Badly let down by standards of cleanliness & maintenance. Dangerous broken toilet seat in bathroom. Also more disturbingly a used disposable razor from a previous guest in the same bathroom. The bedroom carpet was filthy, it even had plastic tags from clothes on the floor. Obviously had not been cleaned properly in weeks/months. Luckily another guest was a no show so we moved room. This new room was not any better for cleanliness but at least the toilet seat was intact. That was the best thing about the room. In this part of the country & for £100 a night I would expect breakfast to use good quality locally sourced produce. Sausage like cardboard & bacon paper thin & tasteless. Cap that off with a coffee machine that spent more time broken than working. Avoid at all costs.

Avoid

This is the worst public house I have ever visited, difficult to believe it is still open. It smells horrible , it is freezing ,and it is dirty, should be shut down. Please do not go there to stay or eat .The staff appear unkempt and rude . Such a shame because as the only pub in the village it does negatively impact on the character of the village.

Worst pub meal ever

If the rooms are as bad as the food then I wouldn't bother. My 10yr old could make better. Greedy businesses like these are happy to take our money off us but people read these reviews & it will damage them in the long run & so it should. Makes spoons seem like Michelin star

Whats not to like

We went for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely perfect.
Also clearly a great team working to make your experience a good one
Well done guys
We will be back this week to have another meal whilst on holiday
